I'm just paranoid....

If I bite the bullet, I want this to go as well as possible....I'm even over thinking the speed of the greens around here, I have no idea if they're fast or slow. I know I've played slower, and I've played faster, I just don't know which end of the spectrum the greens by me run.

Haha, they way you're talking, you make it seem you're the one getting the fitting. :-P

I'll let you know all about it after I do it.

So I spoke to the fitter and I feel the conversation went well.

It sounds like it did. Good.

Looks like a nice place. Maybe @iacas can chime in and let us know if it's wide/big enough?

Yes. :)

So, unfortunately something came up and I was unable to do the fitting last Saturday. Earliest I'll be able to do it will be April. The fitter said depending on the weather we might be able to do it outdoors which is probably better anyway. Thanks for the advice, everyone!

That's too bad, sorry that happened.

Yeah, such is life. Probably for the best. I think it'd be interesting to do the fitting outdoors so I could test it on greens that have a slope.

I love my Edel putter. I had the luxury of being fitted by Dave Edel in Austin. I can't say I immediately starting draining 20 footers but my stats are getting better and better. Before I got my putter I was averaging 33 or 34 putts per round. I am down around 30 or 31. My last 2 were 29 and 28 (two chip ins though). I always liked three site lines or two lines and a dot but Dave said I actually lined up better with no site lines at all. I really like a clean look and it looks even better without them. I do have some addition weight in the shaft and the putter has great balance. The only issue I have is that I have failed cycle any of my other putters out of the corner and into my bad. I used got really enjoy trying new things but as my scores continue to go down I find much more enjoyment with what is in my bag. It's worth the money to get fit and have a putter custom made for you. Scotty won't do that for the masses. Whoa, don't know how I missed this earlier but love it in black. It's beautiful!

I got fitted for an Edel putter yesterday and I am super excited about it! The process is much like the one described in the other posts. It was generally pretty cool to learn about the tech and process behind the fitting and all that good stuff. The main reason I am posting is because there was one part of the fitting that differed from everything I have read and I want to get other Edel users opinions. When we first did the whole laser thing and determined that my putter was not lined up correctly the next step was to put together a putter that would fit me. But instead of the fitter just putting one together and handing it to me, he asked me to pick which head shape I liked the most and we went from there. Neither here nor there really, it just felt like a little personal touch that I appreciated instead of having a certain shape forced on me. I still lined up dead straight in the end. I am curious if anyone else had this experience? I'll be posting pictures of the putter when I get it... like I said VERY excited!

I do that sometimes, but I tell the guy first that if that preferred shape won't work, I won't just keep hi in that shape because he likes it. To do so would be against just about everything you're supposed to get from an Edel fitting.

I sometimes ask people if they need or want sight lines with the same caveat - if they can't aim it better I'm not going to recommend it at all.

I'm also enjoying the pixl - took one practice session to let myself assimilate to it. I previously had a UST putter shaft (steel w/ graphite) and a solid face. It had a very direct feel.

Played the first round with the E1 and made several 6-8 footers, some 15 footers were an inch short, and rolled in a 28 foot slider. Β Aimed it with confidence.

Haven't picked up a club in a week due to work, and so results were encouraging, except for a driver inconsistency. The bane of almost everyone.

I was happy with the Edel.

For those who wonder satin silver or basic black, think about which one is easier to aim for you. If you aim the demo putter perfectly, I'd be wary of getting another color unless you could also demo the aim. Golfers are visual athletes and the mind assimilates a lot of info.

Yup. Always makes me wonder why it is even an option.

Sorry I missed this early ... my fitter and I discussed the head shape. He asked questions like what shapes have I used in the past, how long I had my current putter, etc ... We started with a head similar to mine ... I did not have sight lines on my old putter, but once we put a slight on mine I aligned right away ... we tried other head shapes and sight lines, but the setup I ended up with proved a couple of times to be dead nuts straight ( we would go back to it for comparative). He also suggest I stay with with gray ... After a couple of rounds I am so impressed with my distance control on long putts ... is that the inserts, weighting, or both? I have never hit longs putts so smoothly ... I know it is pricey, but have never felt better about a golf purchase of that $ amount.

    • This is a loooooong winded narrative so if you don't like long stories, move on.Β πŸ˜‰ Our senior club typically gets about 25 new members each year. We lose about 25 members each year for various reasons (moved to FL/AZ, disabled, dead, too expensive). Of the new members, usually 20 have an active GHIN handicap. About 5 each year do not have a GHIN handicap. When they join our club, we give each member a state association membership that includes GHIN handicapping services. We play a series of handicapped tournaments over the summer. When we sign up a new member who does not have a GHIN handicap, we attempt to give them an estimated index until they have sufficient scores posted to have an actual GHIN index.Β  Our first event typically is around May 15 so, in theory, a new member has about 6 weeks to post a few scores. Posting season in the Mitten starts April 1. Inevitably, several of the unhandicapped individuals seemΒ  to either not play until the first tournament or can't figure out how to enter scores (hey, they are seniors). That situation then leads to my contacting the new member and asking a series of questions: a. Did you ever have a GHIN handicap? If yes, which State and do you recall what it was? b. Do you have an alternate handicap through a non-GHIN handicap service or a league? c. What do you think your average score was last year (for 9 or 18) d. What was your best score last year? Where did you play and which tee was used? e. What do you consider a very good score for yourself? Based on their responses I attempt to give them an index that makes them competitive in the first couple events BUT does not allow them to win their flight in the first couple events. We don't want the new members to finish last and at the same time, we don't want someone with a "20" playing handicap to win the third flight with a net 57. In the event some new member did shoot a net 57, we also advise everyone that we can and will adjust handicaps retroactively when it is clear to us that a member's handicap does not accurately reflect their potential. We don't like to adjust things retroactively and in the 8 years I have chaired the Handicap Committee, we have only done it once. So here are the questions to the mob: Any ideas how to do this better? Any questions one might ask an unhandicapped individual to better estimate their index/handicap? Would it be reasonable to have a new player play once (or more?) without being eligible to place in the money?
