Cheap golf

Hey guys,

wondering if there are any secret sites I don't know about to find some deals on golf. I want to play a TON this summer but want to be economical about it at the same time.

I'm on group golfer and I know of entertainment books, but are there any other good ones?

Hardly a secret, but there is golfnow.com I generally assume that golfers already know about this one though. It's all over TV. Twilight is your friend, if it works with your schedule!! Also, my iPhone tried to autocorrect golfnow to 'gilfnow' ... DON'T RECOMMEND THAT ONE!! haha.

No secret, but try any of the on-line booking sites.  GolfNow and Golf18 are two of the bigger ones.  Pick one and stick with it, then do all the booking for your group.  You'll accumulate benefits for reduced fees and free rounds to use for yourself or to share with your buddies.  A lot of courses will sign you up for email specials too.  If you're flexible, you can sometimes take advantage of some great last minute deals.

as been posted, Golfnow.com is the my favorite tee-time site. I can get some great deals down here in FLA provided I don't mind playing when it's 95+ degrees and the sun is blistering. Personally I like the heat and having courses all to myself - quick rounds that way.  I should be getting some good deals soon as the temps are getting up there - and the tourists/snowbirders are leaving.  My favorite course Waterlefe goes for about $50-75/round now.  I play it sometimes for about $17.

Our area also has some regional/local golf pass cards - where you get major discounts to area courses along w/ free green free deals.

My folks live in Bradenton.  Waterlefe is a fun track.  Par 3 ninth is a great hole!

I've seen many deals on Golfnow.com that were more than 60% off regular greens fees, but typically you need to commit to them fast and be very flexible as to time.  I got a deal on one round last fall for $35 at a really nice resort course, including cart and range balls, normally priced at $90.

Sign up for www.groupon.com , www.livingsocial.com or any similar local sites, as they typically will run golf specials once or twice a month.  I've picked up a number of greens fees coupons at 50-75% off.

Most of the courses that I frequent have a signup sheet and I'll get emails with their weekly deals.

For example theres a beautiful course called Firestone Farms in Columbiana Ohio that lets you have a free round on your bday

Another course has 18 and a cart for 15 bucks during the week..etc...

Ive seen 2-3 awesome deals for some golf courses around my area through living social over the last 2 months.I jumped all over one of them since I never played the course before and heard many people talk good about it.

Also I would recomend you walk some rounds.You can really walk for a good price compared to riding, not to mention its good for your body.

Always check the courses website. They will usually have the specials on that. Some courses in this area have a thing called a PDP, you pay a small amount monthly and get unlimited range balls and walk up $20 rounds. The one course in my area does it but they charge like $80 a month for the program because they let you use the range, but the range is a pile, so I don't generally purchase Be careful with groupon and living social. Often times courses that sell those end up selling a ton of them and the courses tend to get filled with non-golfers and the round becomes obnoxiously slow and uninteresting.

I live in SE Michigan and I am cheap frugal.  I played 120 rounds in 2012 at an average cost of $22.50.  I don't play goat tracks but much of my playing is at 2nd tier or municipal courses.  I will on occasion play a top course like Shepherd's Hollow but we look for deals and play midweek.

As someone mentioned, there are occasionally golf deals on Groupon and SweetJack but frankly they are so infrequent that it is hard to put up with the constant reminders for spa services and flowers.

For individual courses that you enjoy, get on their email list.  Courses will often run deals.  I also check on course's "Birthday Club" deals.  Some will give you a free round and cart, no strings attached, on the month, week or day of your birthday.  I usually score 2-3 free rounds in September through that process.

If you are really cheap, you need to play a lot early in the season and late in the season to take advantage of the "Early Spring" and "Late Fall" rates most courses post.  Also play midweek, time permitting, or afternoons on weekends.  You will pay top price if you insist on playing at 9am on Saturday in June.

Finally, if you do not do so already, walk the course when permitted.  There are going to be times when riding in a cart is mandatory or the social thing to do.  Other than those times, save the $10-15 that a cart costs and walk.
