I don’t see it. The face is closed through the entire backswing.

I don't post my bad swings here and my swing can have a lot of variations. Yes, the face is excessively closed between A1 and A2, but it's not too crazy shut at A4. If I let the wrist extend, shaft is too steep coming down.

This is what happens if I don't think flex lead wrist:

When I do:

You’re plenty deep at A4 in both. Do you think about swinging out more from A4 to A5? That’s one feel my instructor has me working on. Steep at A3 and shallow at A5 with swinging out from transition.

Looks closed to me, Steve.

I’d rather have it shut than open. I can find a swing where it’s more shut than that. Open doesn’t work for me, the extended lead wrist gets me steep and I shallow late, leave the face too open (or shank) going to A7The last 3 instructors I’ve worked with have told me to bow the lead wrist at 4 more and I’ll get away from that and get steep.

When I try and do that my arms come off my chest and path goes too out to in. When I feel like I drop the club behind me at A4 my arms will go out towards the ball pretty good I think, like in the second swing, at A5 my hands bisect the torso.

Why not square?

Hooks suck, too.

Your face is shut in both swings.

That’s the feel I use too. It’s feeling the head drop behind with the start of the swing going more out than down. It flattens the shafts so by A5 it’s on plane.

That’s pretty square.

I mean, it is on the closed side of square but…

I thought square was more toe down there, no?

Not completely toe down obviously but closer to 45°.

I’m more square here so I can do it.
I can play around with it when I start hooking it. Maybe the shaft a little bit more laid off is contributing to the closed face?

Depends on where the club is on the arc, lead arm angle, etc.

Same thing as above, more right side bend, flex lead wrist, "fall behind" at 4. The good news is that I haven't hit really bad shanks in awhile. Heel? Yes. Ball mark on shaft? No.

    • Yeah, a brain fart. I would be killing it on the Hooters tour if I had a better........mental game. 😜
    • Day 165 (23 May 22) - still nursing the left foot, so I worked on transition from backswing to downswing using the 3w.  Followed with hitting hard foam balls (about 15 total) from my yard to my neighbor’s and back.
    • Day 204, May 23, 2022 35-45 minutes working on the feels: Shift Hinge in a way that my arms pull across (which doesn't happen, that's the feel) Right wrist stays flat Throw face open/behind me as I shift. Went pretty well.
    • My point was that you hit a pull-draw, and so you said you tried to hit "out" more… which just tends to make the ball draw more, which is what ended up happening.
    • @Ty_Webb it was brutal. I golf in Riverhead often. This was another animal all together. My buddies do deliveries out there and were laughing at my facial expressions as i saw break lights.
