Played my 4th 9 holer of the season. Have been a range rat. Literally.

Using what I learned from LSW, played many different clubs than I usually did for the course - used the driver much more, the 3W only once, whereas I used to mostly tee off with 3W and 3I. This helped my score. Short game is very rusty, but coming back. Putting was bad because I was using the memory of the speed of greens from a round played on the same course in the morning, dewy and wet greens. Aimpoint reads were pretty much on. 3 hour 1/2 round plus a heated argument that was approaching blows (not me).

Usually carry 13 clubs to lighten weight. Add a 60 degree wedge. Switched out 3I for 20 degree hybrid,

Shot 40 with 4 3 putts, Hit 4 fairways, 6 GIRs, 8 GIRs+nGIRs

1 left fairway, 140 to pin,  middle of green 3 putt, Fairway Hit GIR - 5

2 right rough, 135 to pin, left front green, 3 putt, GIR - 5

3 left fairway, 160 to pin, 30 to pin, pitch, 1 putt FH - 4

4 hit green 15 feet left of flag, 3 putt GIR - 4

5 right rough, 115 to pin, 2 putt GIR - 4

6 right fairway, 240 to pin, layup in fairway, 60 to pin, chip (flew green 1 yard), 2 putt FH nGIR - 6

7 hit green 20 feet in front of flag, 3 putt 4 - GIR

8 right rough, 95 to pin, 1 putt 3 - GIR

9 fairway, 140 to pin, 10 feet off green pitch, 2 putt FH nGIR - 5

Solid round of golf!

Solid round of golf!

Thanks! Hoping to score 36-39 for 9 or 75 ish consistently. As you can see from my Bethpage post why I'm a range rat, ha ha. :-) But seriously will play more from now on after I got the get the full swing better if I'm gonna kill myself out of my system. At least I think I got it out. I really enjoy the range - the experimental/analytical/zone out the world part of it. One of my camera SD cards, the image number is almost at 5,000. :-o And I haven't gone gonzo on the short game yet. :-)

First time taking a full look at short game on video in awhile. Got this funky hips towards the target move on the BS, not getting hip extension on pretty much all of the shots, ball should be more forward, can take a wider stance in the sand.

I'm assuming you've seen the Quickie Pitch thread? I don't think you need to adjust your stance width. You have too much shaft lean at impact, though, you're really bringing the leading edge in play like a miniature full swing. More dealing cards feeling back and through to engage the bounce; unhinge your wrists and let that clubhead pass your hands.

Yeah, actually I got a short game lesson from the one of the guys in that video :-P but it was a long time ago and I definitely need a refresher. All the long game moves I've been ingraining lately probably messed with the muscle memory of the short game moves I did have. I learned it once though, shouldn't be a problem to get it back. Will revisit the video though - good idea.

Edit: Holy hell, you're right. Way too much shaft lean on the little pitch. Will have to correct.

Practice pitch shots with a stick against your left ankle for a bit. The turning in a pitch shot is over the "post" of your left leg, mostly.

Actually, just set your right foot on its toes for awhile and hit pitch shots one-footed.

One of most natural feeling swings I felt in awhile since working on so many pieces. Really felt like I was throwing my right arm out like a whip.

It kinda felt like right arm was skipping a rock, but I would have never arrived at this motion with that cliche. I got to it with more specific, targeted instruction.

Concentrating on the left knee. Pushing down and forward.

Can't quite get it to work as well on the driver.

Left shoulder and knee going left too early.

I find it interesting that most of us are working on similar priority pieces.  Stephan has me working on the right knee too.  I'm doing something similar to you.  He wants me to pull my right knee or thigh toward my left from A5 to A7.  It is a work in progress.

So we'll both look like Elvis impersonators on the range, working the knee :-) Thank you very much.

Putting pressure on left knee, also left shoulder towards target longer on downswing. I know the shaft looks steep post A8. Got the fix from instructor already for that.

Head was starting to go down and forward on the BS (curse you, SnT), so thinking head away from ball and towards camera, shallow shoulder turn, arm swing going back. On DS, extend arms, fire arms. Don't freaking stand up.

Trying to get arms to swing in to out, more right. Not so sure I'm doing a good job of it though.

Finally got to take another live lesson with @iacas and Preston. Before the lesson, thought I was hitting a wall, getting a little discouraged, but after the lesson, felt invigorated, strike is much more solid. Dudes can teach.

Didn't get to touch a club until almost a week after the lesson, bah, as soon as I got back, did the drill @iacas gave me. I see what you mean by the pump now Erik. Will work on smoothing that out. For some reason, I think of Charles Barkley when looking at these vids, but swing feels more effortless, ball flight much better.

Regular swing

Agreed. One small point.

You're doing a much better job of this here than the first third or so at Metedeconk, where you'd lay the shaft down but uncock fully to the red line (left). Keep trying to leave the shaft close to the green line (doesn't have to be all the way to it let alone past it), and pay attention to the left wrist to remove any cupping. Doesn't have to be super arched, but in slow motion it should be arched a little via your "down and under" motion with the right wrist (that was the feel that clicked with you right)?

    • Agree. The next omission needs to be that ridiculous team concept. Nobody cares about a team when they really don’t represent anything except being a group of diminished morality and/or washed up pro golfers. Or wait, we’ve also got total nobodies who’ve accomplished nothing who now get a participation trophy! Doesn’t that sound invigorating!
    • LIV moving to 72 holes is a subtle admission that 54 holes was nothing but a joke all along.
    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
