Really...there could also be a rock in the middle of the fairway that could kick a ball into the woods also.  Missing by 3 yards with a driver is not going to put you in trouble 99% of the time being that you likely already aimed at some part of the fairway... come on now.

I didn't deliberately do anything... am I wrong to assume that you were at least aiming for the fairway in the first place. I mean that is where most people at least try to get the ball to end up. I've never heard of anyone say " yeah let me aim for the rough and hopefully it will stay there so I can have a tougher second shot." 3 yards missed right or left with a driver when the fairway was what you aimed for 99.9% of the time is goin to give you a descent second shot. The people who design golf balls for these companies are aeronautical engineers ( I hope to be one soon) and if they say there's not much of a difference between their golf balls until they get to the wedges I'm pretty sure the no what they are talking about and have done some testing.

Yeah, because you know the saying... "Golf is a game of yards."

I can't tell you how many times I've said "Dammit, wish that ball landed just a yard or two to the (left/right/closer/farther away)

A rock in the middle of the fairway? Seriously, now you are just being argumentative. I've never played a course that had a rock in the middle of the fairway. I've played plenty that have rocks just off one side or the other for drainage or landscaping. Will missing by 3 yards put you in trouble a lot? No, but it can put you in trouble.

I play the Srixon Soft (14 index) and by far the best value around.,.think the're $20/box now (even the new version).  They feel pretty darn soft and better (cheaper) than the Titleist Velocity..and I like that green arrow pointer.  I think their close to 90 compression..probably why they feel soft.

Srixon Soft Feel launches high, feels soft off irons and on the green, but I can not spin that bad boy no matter what I do. Still my go-to- cold weather ball because it feels soft in 40* temps. Again, I do not expect my swing to produce zip-it-back spin on any ball. But, I would like it to stop eventually when I hit a green with a full swing 9-iron. If the Srixon Z-star rolls out five feet, the Soft Feel roll out 20. Odd part is that it feels like it going to drop and stop.

If you can live with the rollout, it is a very nice and very affordable ball.

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club? • Interesting that Scottie is #10 on the all time money list and he's been on the PGAT for 4 years. Of course, purses are bigger now, but  neat to look at non-the-less.  The list of top 18 money winners in PGA Tour history has plenty of surprises This list is updated through the 2024 RBC Heritage. To add, Scottie won 4.5 million at the Players, Jack played 44 seasons and won a little of 5 million on course.
