As for Tiger and the drop.........I'll side with Wittenberg, who unlike anyone else with an opinion, was in the best position to see what happened

The difference between Sergio and Sean is context.  Sergio has a history of not coming through in the big moments.  Even his big Players win came on a great shot on 17 - after Goydos dunked his shot, taking all the pressure off of Sergio.

I think it is more likely he will go into one of his funks.

Much as I absolutely hate to defend Chamblee, he is right on this point this year.  Sergio is 3rd on tour in strokes gained putting and it is way better than his ball striking, scrambling, or sand saves.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

He has 'bent the rues' the last 2 Tourneys he's played in...........I say that anybody who roots for this guy is VERY liable to cheat on the course themselves. There should be an asterisk put on this Players...........

If you're being sarcastic, rather amusing. If you're serious, you're a ****ing idiot.

LMFAO.......oh, the drama

First comment in that story:

I was standing near John [the chief marshal quoted as saying Tiger never asked about Sergio] when he was being interviewed. The reporter took his words out of context. I believe it was later found out that an Escort had spoken to Tiger. They are not marshals, but they do dress the same as marshals with the exception of a lanyard that says Escort and credentials that say Escort instead of Marshal. What John is quoted as saying was in regard to what he heard and what the marshals did. It seems like an honest mistake for all involved.

So maybe nothing to this.

I have to say that I knew Tiger was lying when he said that the marshal told him Sergio had already hit.  The reason I knew was because you can clearly see Tiger trying to hush the crowd after he pulled the 5 wood from the bag.  Why would he hush the crowd if the marshal told him that Sergio already hit?

Also, I've been to dozens of tournaments and two things I've noticed.  #1- Marshals don't speak to the players. They really don't.  #2- It's really obvious when the other guy in the group has already hit his shot. People clap, start walking, and you can just tell that it's happened. Especially from 49 yards away.

I agree that people are making a big deal over the whole controversy, but it again speaks to Tiger's character, that he would make up a story that the marshal said Sergio had hit.  As a Tiger fan, it does bother me that he would be so dishonest on the course, or I guess in this case, off the course.

Got to see that final round finally.  Watch the last couple hours only.

Sergio really was hitting super well.  His playing partner also.

Tiger's finish and composure after the one mistake was excellent.

Who was the 49 year old?  He played AMAZING.  if not for the one wet shot.....

Best tourney finish I've seen this year so far.

This is a ridiculous topic for controversy.  It doesn't matter that Tiger pulled a club out of his bag.  It was done well before Sergio started his backswing.  He could have stepped away and begun again.  He chose not to.  His problem - not ours, not the media's - just Sergio looking for something to cry about.

Sergio finished T8, he was tied going into Sunday and was in the final grouping so why is he and his fans still whining about a club pull on Saturday?

1) Apparently it's possible it wasn't a Marshal, but an "escort."  And we know how much Tiger likes to interact with escorts.

2) Did you even watch?  Tiger had probably 50-100 people surrounding him.  People don't clap and start walking when Tiger's playing partner hits.  They clap and start walking when he hits.  There's no way to say definitively that Tiger should have known when Sergio hit.

You fools can keep talking about how these incidents speak to Tiger's character, but really it only speaks to what you would like to infer about his character.

For god's sake, I didn't mean the people standing near tiger would walk and clap, I meant the other people at the ropes on the other of the fairway when Sergio hit.  Even with the people standing around him, you can see large groups of people moving.

You aren't going to convince me that Tiger didn't make up the point about asking the Marshal if Sergio already hit. The entire interaction is on tape and it didn't happen.  Is this whole incident a big deal?  Absolutely not. I think Sergio is being a baby, but I also think that Tiger making this up, shows us another small part of his character.  Tiger Woods knows who the marshals on the course are.  Have you been to a PGA Tour event?  It's obvious even to the spectators who the marshals are.

Clever escort comment, however.

Just fanning the flames, looking for their 2 minutes of fame.  I agree this doesn't mean Tiger lied--there could have been any of a number of people Tiger would casually refer to as "Marshal".  But on the other hand, if he would lie about such a non-issue, it does say something about his character.

The shocking thing was, Tiger rarely says anything that gives away much about what happened. He doesn't like to add fuel to the fire. I am not sure if its because it was Sergio. If these two really just do hate each other. Tiger never let anything slip when it came to Phil, back when the whole, "Tiger-Phil" rivalry going on. Its just strange that he would say a Marshall told him Sergio has hit. I've been to plenty of tournaments, and the marshals are really strict, and they take there job seriously. So when they are told not to talk to the players, i believe the Marshal over Tiger in this case. Which the question must be ask, why would Tiger, a usually very PR, say things by the book type of guy let this slip. To me its just says, he rather shift blame away from himself a bit because he knows he was in the wrong.

On what Sergio was talking about,

Which i must reiterate, Tiger woods is popular, the crowd gets excited by every little thing he does. He knows this, and he must know his presence has an influence on people around him. To be considerate of other golfer's. Look at what Jack did in the British Open for Tom Watson. He sank that long putt, the crowd erupts like he won. Jack quieted the crowd to give Tom Watson his fair shot. Jack understood his presence and how it influenced people, not just for his advantage over other golfers, but how the crowd might react. I am not saying he must tell them not to get excited for a shot, and how that effects other pairings  (group infront or behind you, or on a hole near you), but for your own playing partner in the same group. Yea, Tiger should have paid more attention to his presence. To say Tiger doesn't know he has this same presences i BS, he knows how the crowd is going to react around him. So if it was intentional or not, Tiger was in the wrong to do any action that might have caused the crowd to be disturbing to another player. Ignorance doesn't put someone in the clear.
