I've been getting into analyzing my swing recently mostly thanks to this forum.  I downloaded the V1 Golf app for iPhone which basically allows you to view a video of your swing in super slow motion.  Only problem is I can never get the right angle and I'm always trying to lean it against clubs at the top of my golf bag and having it fall, etc.  Does anyone know of a tripod for iPhones that will set up at the correct height to tape my swing?  I don't own another camera or any type of video recorder, just the smartphone.

Thanks!

Not sure if it's any good but>>  http://thesandtrap.com/t/60448/the-protosports-holster-for-the-iphone

I'd strongly recommend investing in a camera with high speed capability though. Iphone footage can be frustrating to work with, just not enough FPS.

That looks like a very cool product.  I might have to pull the trigger on that.  The only thing is it looks like you have to be somewhere with soft grass to stick it in the ground.  I was hoping for a tripod because the driving range I go to most only plays off grass during the weekend, not weekdays.

iPhone camera seems to be working well for me so far.  Not sure why I would need anything else at this point

I imagine you could just have the alignment stick poking out of your bag instead of sticking it in the ground. I  just wonder how much dicking around is involved in getting the camera to be reasonably square to your stance, seems like it would benefit from some kinda swivel-ly aspect but from what I can tell, it seems to be rigidly fixed to the stick.

Iphone is better than nothing, I used to use the SwingReader app but it blurs the frames so much that you ended up having to make a lot of guesses as to your actual shaft position. Definitely good enough for checking head movement and seeing how far forward you're getting your hips.

I just use an alignment rod and stick it through the rubber piece on my Otterbox knockoff. Does the job.

I use the protosports holster, works fine but the iphone vids are marginal at best.

That is exactly what I have right now.  iPhone, with the protosports holster, and ground too hard to stick the alignment rod into.  It's actually quite simple (assuming you have a stand bag):  I just prop the bag up where I want to camera to be, then stick the alignment rod straight down between the clubs (not diagonally into the bag, but straight vertically through all the clubheads then to the ground) and line it up reasonably well, then wrap my towel around the rod and then tuck it into the clubs somewhat, to sort of "lock" the phone in place.  Works just fine.  When I'm doing the face on videos, I'm actually resting the bag and rod on concrete, and with the towel, unless its really windy, the camera stays in place just fine.

I agree with Ernest, however, that ideally, a camera with higher fps would work better.  I can't see the exact positions I want on the downswing because I only get 3 or 4 frames if I'm lucky.  I usually miss the alignment points by some.  But for now, it does the trick. :)

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
