Just graduated from college, so I finally have time to golf more now! Been golfing for 20 years now almost, but rarely more than 2-3 times a year...this year alone I've golfed probably 25 times already.

Anyway, here's what's in the bag:

Driver: TaylorMade RBZ Stage II (9.5 degree, stiff shaft)

3-Wood: TaylorMade RBZ

Hybrid: Cleveland 19 degree

Irons: Old Nike Slingshots

Wedges: Wilson Sand Wedge, Cobra 60 degree, Ping 52 degree

Putter: Cleveland

Typical round is around 95, though I can sometimes break into the 80's.

I have a lot of distance, and very little control. Surprisingly, short game is my strong point. Anything inside of 100 years, including sand.

Well, that about covers it.

Do you typically play in the Cuyahoga/Cuyahoga Falls area, or do you travel south and play courses near the Brunswick/Medina/Akron area?

I currently live in Parma, and will be moving to Sagamore Hills next week. I primarily play on the west/south side. Brunswick, North Olmsted, Columbia Station...etc.,

Going to Springvale for a quick 9 after work tonight.

That's awesome. I play a lot of golf in the Columbia Station area... Royal Crest, Pine Brook (Grafton), Dorlon, and Emerald Weeds. I play several further South in Seville and locally in Medina as well. Sometimes we'll travel out by Hinckley and play Skyland, Pine HIlls, Ironwood, and Hinckley Hills.

Royal Crest is probably my favorite course. It's really in good shape this year, and for the price, you can't go wrong. Pine Hills is awesome, but a little pricey. Dorlon is kind of meh, but at $20 for 18 and a cart, it's hard to go wrong.

How long have you been playing?

I personally hate Dorlon, but that is one of my buddy's favorites for some reason. It really isn't even "golf" to me.... there's no real fairway. It's just a dog track with mediocre greens and weeds/backyard grass mowed short to resemble a fairway.

I don't mind paying $40-60 to play a very nice course either, but $20.00 on a dog track sucks. I can't wait until Blue Heron re-opens by my house.

I have been golfing for 3 1/2 years now and have been stuck at a 9.4-9.8 handicap for nearly 12 months consistently. Last year I was playing 4x a week and practicing 3 days as well but just couldn't get over the hump for some reason.

Well, you have me beat handicap wise. I don't actually know what mine is...but I know I average low to mid 90s. I have a lot of power and a decent short game...just gotta find some consistency. I haven't played Blue Heron yet, but heard great things about it.

I have some good friends that moved to Lakewood several years ago, and I visit pretty often. I even lived up there for a summer 3 years ago. I really like the area.

It must be great weather in July and August, but it wouldn't be fun to wait until April to be able to play without snow!

Yeah it's about to re-open soon. In the meantime I've been playing a lot of Ridgetop, Royal Crest, Rawiga, and Skyland. Maybe one day we can set something up and tear Royal Crest up.

We play in November sometimes, during the January thaw and on New Years Eve/Day... hell it's been mild the past few years also. But I do get your point, I would much rather be living near white sand, cabana girls, palm trees and water that ocean like the West Keys....

Absolutely! I'm always looking for new people to play with. I love #11...I always try to carry the water. Last time, I ended up 70 yards past the pin...for about a 330 yard drive. It put me in a bad spot, but left a big smile on my face that I hit it that well. Haha.

Yeah that hole is such a B sometimes lol. I fall for that hole every time and either outdrive it and end up near the woods on whatever hole is behind it and have to chip back up from another tee.

I forgot if it is 9 or 18, but it cracks me up there because when I first started playing I fought a major slice and hit that little white house that has pine trees lining its back yard a few times. No damage or anything, just an F'd up fly ball onto the roof lol. The long Par 5 coming back in.

I sometimes get lucky and just slice it, end up with a short wedge to the green since the slice clears the water to the right. :D

I'd be lying if I said I haven't hit a house before. :X

    • Day 118: 4/23/24 Stack Full Speed spectrum training session 2/24. Finished 1 mph over last session but 4 mph slower than the preceding program.
    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!
    • Do you have examples of exceptional scores versus their established handicap indexes?
    • Day 539, April 23, 2024 Mirror work once again. When I get back to swings, I'll just do it A. LOT.
