My Swing (Jeremie Boop)

This "connected" thing is still working, I was doing pretty well except for a couple shots because I didn't warm up at all. I was 6 over after 7 with two 3 putts which is pretty good for me * not the 3 putts but the score* I was on or just off the green in regulation 6 of the 7 holes also. My distances were good, on a 390 hole I was about 90 out and on a 400 hole I was about 90 out. Both were a little downhill so some of that was from the extra roll out. I was able to get away with par on my nemesis hole but should have gotten a bird except I duffed my pitch shot. At that point the heavens opened up and drowned any chance of finishing out the 9, but I'm pretty optimistic about my future scores.

Waving hi as I drive through Lima. Riding in the passenger seat actually.

Rofl, enjoy the storms on the ride!

Yeah. Just drove through a doozy in Findlay.

Rofl, enjoy the storms on the ride!

That was crazy. I was playing in my league match tonight. 4:30pm at Kittyhawk. We get to the 15th hole on the Eagle. I am in the middle of the fairway, the horn goes off. Behind us is a giant storm that exploded over downtown Dayton. We got ZERO rain at Kittyhawk. The lightning was too close though. So we had to wait for about 30 minutes for them to allow us back on. When I drove home, there was down tree limbs, and branches everywhere.

Yeah, I knew the rain was coming today but I thought for sure I'd get 9 in before it hit, unfortunately only made it 7. I hit my drive on 8 and was green high so I had a great chance at birdie/par but the rain just was too bad. I was hoping to get in at 42 or so which would have been my best 9 for a long time. I was really striking the ball pretty well most of the shots, just wish I putted better. Missed some putts that I never should have.

Yeah. Wife said we only got a few drops at the house just a few miles from KHawk but south of town got hammered. 15... Nice par 5. Bagged a few birds there over the years. What is up with the stinkin orange barrels in Lima?

Redoing basically all the overpasses and on/off ramps among other things through here. It's been a long and drawn out process that hopefully is winding up by the end of summer.

.

Some video's of Jeremie's Swing.

Backswing, he takes the club way too far back. Needs to think half swing from now on. Really try to shorten that swing up.

Downswing, he gets very steep. Needs to let the clubhead fall behind him more and shallow out. This causes him to flip at the ball as well because if he didnt' then he would hit the ground very hard. Flipping helps him shallow it out, with him pulling up as well through impact.

So for his swing, I would work on taking shorter backswings, and work on that downswing transition move. I would take the club up to the top, hold it there and feel like the clubhead is working more behind your hands. The feeling might feel like a reverse motorcycle rev., turning the top of your left hand over and towards the ground more. Try to get that swing path shallowed out and more towards the right.

Jeremie, take this the right way please: fix this, and then you can begin working on your downswing sequencing (hips don't move forward much, hands late). Those will likely improve if you can feel like you stop here, but then you can begin to work on that massive flip, which is almost the entire reason you're whatever handicap you are right now.

MAKE yourself do this.

Shouldn't take long. Then you can begin working on the downswing pieces.

It's funny, just stop doing this long backswing. That's what I've been trying to do but it doesn't seem to be getting much better.

Doing some slow motion backswings it seems like if I stop about where my shoulder reaches my chin that is close to where the picture shows I should be. Would this be a good checkpoint/trigger to stop my backswing?

You probably need to feel like it stops before that, because the momentum will carry it on to that point. If you stop it when you feel the shoulder hit your chin, momentum will carry you on to where you are now, or near to it.

It's rather frustrating that I am having such trouble with something as simple as shortening my backswing. Seems like such a simple task.

Would getting one of those heavy clubs help this at all? I just am trying to find some way to start feeling the right spot to stop the swing. I bring this up because I tried hitting the sldr irons and one of the things I noticed right away was they were heavier and I could really feel where they were in my swing. I was much better at slowing my swing down when I was hitting those. Or maybe I am mis-remembering. Maybe Matt can chime in on that. He did say that they had too high a ball flight for me so not a good fit.

I think you're making this more way complicated than it is. If you need to feel a four-inch backswing to stop your swing in a good spot, feel a four-inch backswing. If it's a 1/4 backswing, or 1/2, then do that.

Record yourself on a video camera trying different feels, and keep shortening it until you get a good backswing, then shorten it a little more because it's going to go longer on the golf course.

Just stick with it. It's not as simple as it sounds, but the only way to stop it is to literally stop doing it. @iacas is right about the momentum thing. Take a bunch of 1/2 swings and see them on video, you'll be surprised where they can be. I just got done with a 5SK clinic this morning, and one of the things I need to feel is that I'm only swinging half swings going back, but I can crank it as much as I want going down. The results speak for themselves.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? TIGER WOODS' AMATEUR VICTORIES YEAR WIN(S) 1984 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1985 10-and- under Junior World Golf Championships Boys    1988 Boy's 11-12 Junior World Golf Championships   1989 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships   1990 Boy's 13-14 Junior World Golf Championships, Insurance Youth Golf Classic   1991 U.S. Junior Amateur, Boys 15–17 Junior World Golf Championships, Orange Bowl International Junior Look at some other AJGA Players of the Year. How many of these names do you recognize? A few, for sure. I assure y'all, I'm not trying to pee in your Cheerios. I just don't get what the point is. Okay. I get that, then. Thanks.
    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
    • Day 1: Spent some time hitting some balls. Working on my hips and a “soft” and straight trail arm.
    • Slight digression on the way to my point. Back in the day there were a lot of people who said that Tiger won because of “the Tiger effect” where people pushed too hard and made mistakes trying to catch him and fell by the wayside. I thought that was BS. It was just that he was that much better than them. I don’t think anything has changed my mind on that.    The hype about Miles Russell is very limited. I’ve seen nothing about him outside of some fairly hardcore golf websites. But I think that the reason those people are talking about him is because he is very good. Same as Tiger. And like I said he just broke one of Tiger’s records. That gets hardcore golf fans to pay attention.
