Wow... definitely going to be using this homemade training aid for the foresee-able future.

Yea the impact position is definitely better. Two things:

  1. Be mindful of your hips going back, they're still sliding a hair. Don't lose sight of that while you work on this.
  2. The stick is supposed to be a drill aid. Your head is going to go up and forward a bit as you get to A10, so if you're taking full swings with the stick in place, you'll crash into it, or you'll start to do this:

You're hanging back and your knees are saggy. Half swings, man. Just do little punch swings to ingrain the feel.

The only thing I worry is how long will it take to actually become a permanent change, or if it ever will. My fear with training aids is always that without it there my swing will just revert back.

Just keep monitoring it with a camera and do the pieces slowly at first. Practice with the training aid until you get the feel, then practice without it to see if it sticks.

Do you think this is a drill I can do prior to going out and playing? Or is it something I should work on just on days I don't go out and play? Last thing I need is to do something that will screw up my game worse on the course.

That sounds pretty good to me. Don't make it too complicated and don't get hung up on making the swing change on the course. You're not taking enough swings on the course to make much of a difference in regards to what you're working on. Change the picture when you practice, play golf when you play.

Not sure if my issue today was thoughts in my head from messing with my swing or just from being tight and not warming up and being tired from walking at the end. First 3 holes were horrid and the last 3 holes I couldn't seem to hit anything good. But for the 12 holes in the middle I was really doing some decent golfing *for me*... Either way I'm going to continue working with the secondary axis tilt aid to work on my flip and forward knee flex. Can't wait until my new clubs come in this week, seems strange to be happy that the courses around here will be shut down for most of the week due to the flooding from all the rain. It will keep me focused on drills instead of playing and also keep me from obsessing about wanting those clubs to hurry up and get here.

Yeah, I'm thinking that's going to be the purchase next year. The only problem is I'm super impatient and if I remember correctly it does take a bit for them to be delivered. That and the price of those wedges... just ouch man. Especially since I'll need a 50-55-60..

I don't agree that you should worry about your head as much. I see that as a secondary thing. You have to get your head forward to have any chance of hitting the ball with a negative AoA. Your arms go too far around the shirt seam and then are slow (aided by them going too far in the backswing).

I'd work on feeling that you…

  • Keep your elbows pinched together during the backswing (to keep the right elbow in front of the shirt seam), or keep your right upper arm closer to your right nipple in the backswing.
  • SLAM your hands down very quickly from the top. Very armsy feel, probably, but I want those arms coming down FAST.

Yeah, a ball can work. FO and DL views are good, but RE view is the best for checking this, too.

There's a semi flat dodge ball that was laying around I used for these quick vids. Let me know if it's working well enough to keep using or if I should pick up something else.

My swing feels completely different with this drill, super compact and seems to produce more speed? It's very strange.

Also want to say, that this is producing very similar results as the Key 2 work with the alignment rod next to my head. Of course I'm pretty sure you already knew that would be the case, right @iacas

The difference I see on the left, though, is I'm getting more shoulder turn and on the right it looks like it's more just arms when I get to the top? Also it looks like my left wrist is more flat at the top than it used to be and the shaft is much more parallel to the toe line.

Not bad for day one. Keep the right upper arm closer to your right nipple. Left arm will be higher at the end of the backswing. The more around yourself you swing the more you'll move that elbow around.

I'd look for a smaller ball you can put more between your elbows and less down by your wrists. Your lower arms won't move apart very easily - they're joined at the hands, after all.

I tried using a smaller ball we had laying about but it was too small so I just moved the one I had higher up. I did some practice swings with that and then did the rest of these swings without.

**the top 2 pictures are so close to the exact same I almost thought I messed up but you can see the ball between my arms just a tiny bit on the left and see one of the balls is gone from the grass, pretty cool how close those two swings are**

Obviously my pesky left knee is going to be a super important thing to focus on soon. However, at this point I'm seeing some pretty steady improvement in some positions. One being my left arm is definitely higher than it used to be. The swing path back and down are almost identical now also, so it's nice to see that I'm not going back shallow and coming down steep. I really like how simple this is to work on, swings with the ball then swings without but focusing on feeling my upper arm touching my chest throughout the back and downswing.

Just a quick comparison video of day 1 and day 2. I know day 1 was not hitting a ball but every other day comparisons will be with a ball.

Tried to get to the range today, the rain was very slight and most areas had the water level still going down, however the range was still partially flooded and thus closed. Just went out back and hit the wiffle balls focusing on keeping the contact between my arm and chest. Worked on the slamming of the arms down for a bit then transitioned into a normal swing. Had 8 of 10 shots land in a 3 foot circle. Decided to call it a night on that note. I'm trying not to burn myself out on the drills by doing them for a short period of time each night.

Went outside to hit some more, because bored.... Was able to repeatedly drop 3 out of 4 shots within a foot of each other with one being a couple feet left. This really makes me want to hit some real balls to see what happens, I really don't trust the wiffle balls all that much. Super frustrating to not have any way to hit real golf balls in order to feel the strike and see real ball flights. This is partially why I just block out golf through the off season. Regardless I will stick with these drills and full swing feel to keep ingraining it. Hopefully I'll be able to get down to Dayton this weekend to get a round or 2 in.

Need a bit of advice here. Still working on that pressure point feeling. DTL looks better on one and FO seems better on the other.

So I'm not totally sure what to do. Should I focus on fixing the DTL? Or is it possible my camera angle was a little different on the DTL so it makes the position look so much different?

For what it's worth, not that I trust ball flight on these wiffle balls completely, most of the shots were straight draw or straight with one pull and one push.
