I had a 12 index a few months back and it is now up to 14 - just updated my profile to reflect the down slide.   I had a back sprain which I've suffered from doing a yard work.  It screwed up my swing form completely and my GIR average when from 6 to 3.   Now, I can't seem to get my swing form back although my back is completely healed.

The lesson learned?   Don't do any yard work !!!

With all the range work I do... And swing changes I've made.  You'd think my cap would be trending down.  But....

I've gone from a 3.9 (low point) to a 5.9 in the last year.  The funny thing is that I can hit some of the best shots of my life... Then follow it up with something that looks like a beginner golfer.

This past weekend I shot an 83... With a 9 and two 7's.  At one point my card went 7, 4, 7, 4.  LOL

Last month in our men's club I was on the 18th tee staring a 75 in the face, and ended the day with a 79 after hitting my tee shot OB.  I've just done some really, really stupid things.

My handicap index is up from last year and overall it is up even more from several years ago.  Couple or more reasons probably.  I moved last year farther out of town so my drive home is longer and I don't play as much now in the afternoons as I did before because of the longer drive.  A few years back, I decided I wanted to learn how to hit a fade.  Biggest mistake I ever made.  It totally screwed my swing up and over the years I have never been able to get my swing back to where it was before that decision.  Lastly, I am 19 days shy of being 67 years old.  Just can't play the way I could when I was younger.

Handicap is going ... probably up. I still have rounds from 2011 in my most recent 20 due to barely playing in the past 24 months (work-related, mostly; that problem has been fixed). On the other hand I'm stronger than I was when I shot many of those rounds, and I hit it a bit farther, so maybe it will go down.

Dropped like a stone throughout the season, but has trended back upwards several strokes because of putting.  I've lost my putter stroke and have been 3 and 4 putting like crazy putting up 89-92's instead of 85's.  Shot 85 yesterday though so I'm happy with that.  Would've been a much better score had I made my birdie putts.

I am somewhat steady but only because of the mix of courses I play. If anything my handicap is higher than it could be because of the low ratings at a couple of the courses I play. Depending on which tees I play the differential could be higher than the actual number of strokes. Putting has been suspect over the last two updates. I've recently shot some mid 80's rounds with as many as 41 putts, 42 a side with 21/20 putts is brutal. But it's been really windy here, putting in the wind is torture.

About the same because of lack of practice time.  I have one good round followed by a bad round.

Came down pretty steadily from 14-15 to ~10.  Has basically bounced around there for a few years.  Though it feels like it's trending slowly down again.  Shifted up the way I'm thinking about my swing work and have shot a few rounds in the 70s recently.  My latest number is I believe down to an 8.8.

Coming down. Last season scoring average was 84.7. This year I am at 82.2. Since start of June I am at 80.8. Shot under 80 10 times so far this year, last year only 3 times.

Flat, but.......

My home course (13 of my last 20 rounds) just had their course rating and slope reviewed.  Course rating dropped by .5 and slope by 3 pts.  No idea why, but the bottom line is that for the same score, the calculated differential is now about a half stroke higher.  So my "flat" hcp index actually reflects better play on my part by about a half stroke.

Why am I trending better?  Full swing ball-striking.  Still a long ways to go, but I'm very pleased with my driver right now and am hitting more greens than I have in a long time.  Goal is to get under 5 by September.....

My handicap is slowly dropping.  It would move more if I could get more consistent and putt better.  I was one over after six yesterday and finished the nine with 6-7-7.   If I could get minimize the big numbers and bring the putting to an average of 36 from 38, I would be quite happy.

I'm trending down. I've played my whole life but I haven't ever "played". Until this year I would play anywhere from 0-5 times per year. Always had a good swing and could break 90 even if I didn't play in 2 years. For the first time I've committed myself to improving and the first place to start was my putting and second was to put my drive in play. Also I use to aim at every single flag and end up left of the hole. Now I play my draw. I began the year at about a 13 and my index is currently 9.2. There is still plenty of room for improvement. I still have 2-3 doubles per round but have pretty much eliminated the triples. My putting has improved to where I usually make 2-3 birdies per round. If i can eliminate the doubles I should be able to break 80 pretty often. FYI my GIR % is 43 and Fairways are 33

How did you fix the work-related problem stopped working. :)

I'm currently stuck at 32 as im playing like handicap 36. Started few months ago with my best 9 hole round a 58 but now im glad if i could do a 68 on 9 holes.

For me the problem lies that distance is better then a month ago but more distance now often means futher in the woods at the right... Oh well nothing a pro can help me fix in the upcoming months.

Have set myself the goal that i want to hit around 27-28 at the end of september or something.

Handicap is dropping.  Three strokes in about 5 months.  All because of full swing ballstriking.  When I stand over the ball now, I actually think that I'm going to hit it up off the ground and right on/near the green.

It is a great feeling to hit the ball this well.  If I can continue doing so - I'm not sure I'd really ever need to keep score.

I'm trending down, and have been doing so for a little over a year now.  My index was in the high 24's in June of '12.  My last revision it was 16.4, and is 15.8 as of right now.  I have my best 2 rounds as my 19th & 20th so I need a good few rounds the next few times out or it could bring me up a bunch.

The main reason that it is going down is because I joined a CC in December and have been playing a ton.  If I am unable to play 9 or 18, I am at least hitting balls at the range because the CC is on my way home from work.  Just got my first real lesson today, and I was hitting the ball better than I have my whole life.  I have had 2 lessons before this one but they were from a lady at the pitch and putt range near my house.  Hindsight...she was terrible for me so I am glad I only did 2.

That's not a trend.  That's a sudden drop .

How did you fix the work-related problem stopped working. :)

Yep. Or, rather, I left a 60+ hour a week job for one with far more reasonable hours (amazingly, without a significant-to-me drop in pay, and with far better benefits). I did it for a number of reasons, and one of those is to play more golf. The former job was also (negatively) affecting my health, but I'll joke that the golf is more important to me. I only left a month ago, so it remains to be seen how much this actually helps my golf. I've heard plenty of stories of retirees (something I'm not... yet) finding their handicaps increasing, despite having more time for the sport.

    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
