Cutting the shaft by 2.25" too much ?

I recently inherited a Cobra Amp Cell driver from my father. The standard shaft length is a whopping 45.75"

I have been playing my Razr Fit at 43.5 with no added swing weight and its doing great. I love the consistency with the shorter shaft. Trimming the Amp Cell 2.25" from the butt to get it to 43.5" seems like a excessive change to the swing weight though. Any thoughts besides a glob of lead tape ?

Luke Donald has his driver cut down to 43.5" and it still seems to work well for him.  I recently had my Nike SasQuatch driver cut down to 43" and it works great.  Its much easier to control and hit solidly.

Swing weight's just a number. If it works, don't muck with it. Too many folks over think. It ain't rocket science.

Grip down on the Cobra to the length that you want to cut it and take a few swings. That will give you a decent idea of what the swing weight will be.

I had my Cell driver shortened to 44.25, they added 12 grams to the tip and with a Winn Dri-Tac standard it was D4 on the nose when finished. A local indie club maker charged me $25 to do it, took about 15 minutes. The weight in the tip makes the shaft play a little softer.

I just cut 2" off my RZB stiff shaft in my R-9 (plays to 43"). Didn't do anything special, just cut it and played.... worked great.
