Pulled a 140yd approach shot a little left, where it "should have" barely brushed some tree limbs, but instead it hit the tree's invisible force field and snapped 90 degrees to the left into the woods.  Tried to punch a little hybrid shot from said woods under the trees and hoped it would roll up the green, instead it hit the tiny cart sign 20 yards ahead (spun it all the way around) and again snapped 90 degrees to the left.  Give me 20 tries I couldn't have hit that little cart sign again from where I was.

This won't be some kind of amazing horror shot but it was the shot that did me in on my quest to shoot under 80 on a sizeable and difficult course. I was about 6 feet off the green hitting my third shot on a par 5 with an easy uphill chip. I picked up my 6 iron and planned to run it up to the pin. I had about 30 feet to the pin. I left it halfway there. I am going to have to just ship with my PW until I can master this shot. Horrible shot.

Played a round Saturday, on my birthday..which makes my bad day even worse.

Hole 4 - 320 Yard Par 4.

- Hit a perfect drive, 260 down the middle of the fairway.  I'm excited I only have 80 yards in.

- Try to take an easy 3/4 shot in to the green and completely shank it straight right.

- Now the anger is starting to rise, so I go over to hit my 3rd shot which is now probably 70 yards out and I duff it 10 yards.

- 4th shot, 20 yards past the green.

- 5th shot, yay!!....I'm on the fringe.

- 6,7,8 Putt, putt, putt

This started the downhill slide in my round.  The next hole I tried to clear my head...went straight to the teebox without my partners with my driver.  Saw the hole was only like 285, teed it up and crushed it over the sand trap, towards the green.  I'm super happy, then my partners tell me there is water about 240 out, on the other side of the traps protecting the green.  Yep, I flew straight into it.

I should of went home because it only got worse....and on my birthday :(

My three older playing partners hit nice drives off the first tee. I hit a huge slice out of bounds.

I lost 5 balls due to driving today. It is just sickening because I has hitting nice irons and drives on the range yesterday so I was looking forward to driving well today.

I missed 1.5 ft putt.

... seriously.

It had enough break so that I missed it by at least a ball length - wasn't like I rimmed it.   Smooth roll out - didn't hit anything.

Yes, I ran it a foot by (didn't baby it) - should have BASHED it in from that length ... lesson learned.

Crazy - I've never seen a short putt move that much... proves can't take anything for granted.

Of course my buddy then says, I gave you that & proceeds to get PO'd at me when I didn't take his gimme, which makes me even more irritated.

Hit a drive off the toe.

Aside from that putting yesterday was like putting on broccoli, there was so much debris on the greens from the trees you needed a broom to clean your putting line. I have a bad enough time. I don't need a perfectly lined putt being deflected by random debris I missed picking up. Does a broom count as a club? Seriously.

That's why my playing partner and I don't do gimme's. We are too proud bc we know we miss those damn putts all the time. I missed a 1 1/2 footer today that did the exact same thing. I could not believe that is broke that much. I even rehit it to make sure that I didn't just turn my putter over. Nope! It was that bad of a break. Didn't look 1/10 as breaky as it was.

Yesterday, after just holing out from 80+ yards for my first eagle, I am ready to hit on the downhill par 3. I proceeded to take a divot with my 8 iron that any bald man would be proud to wear. The ball dribbled down over the hill about 30 yards and the start of the divot was 6 inches behind the ball. Welcome back to reality eagle boy.

I was sinking around on the course today and plastered an 8 iron in some wetter grass from the fairway. I had about 153 to the middle of the green so I took out my 8 iron. I BLASTED the ball to the very back of the green, puring it. I took a divot so big I swear it was the size of a size 17 shoe. It was intact and I replaced it but I don't think I've ever taken such a large divot while still hitting a perfect ball. It was the size of a poodle!

The hole: #14 @ River Forest, F reeport, PA - a short par 5

The situation: I hit my third shot, pin high 15 feet from the pin. Before putting for a birdie, I told myself, "Downhill. Left to right one cup. Lag it close."

The shot: I hit a "Pee Wee Herman" and the ball ended up 6 feet past the pin.

The result: I missed the par and had a three-putt bogie.

A classic 45* shank from the fairway @74 out on a par 5. 3rd shot. Good laugh at my expense! :-D

A wedge shot from the rough went about six feet. My divot started about eight inches behind the ball. It was so bad, I wasn't even angry.

The return of the "Shankopotamus."

Hole #6, River Forest CC.

Hit a slice into the woods, punched out and had 80 yards to the pin.

This is a perfect distance for my wedge, so I set up and hit a SHANK.  Ah-h-h-h-h.

I followed it with a 35 yard downhill flop shot that stopped eight inches from the hole for a bogie.

As bad as the shank was, the flop shot was equally good.

I love this game.

No shanks today, but on Sunday I play a public course that was dried out on a number of fairways. (The greens and approaches were well watered.)

On a par 5 I hit a great shot that ran forever, but I was on a dried out area of the fairway.  I knew that I couldn't hit my 3 wood for the second shot, so I pulled out my hybrid. I hit the ground just before the ball, the clubhead skipped of the concrete-like surface and hit the top of the golf ball. The result was the classic "roller."

(FOOTNOTE: since the ground was very dry the ball went about 85 yards and left me 130 yards to the pin.)

Today on a 485 yd uphill to downhill par 5 I put my 2nd shot 10' from the pin. 2 of my best shots turned into my "bad shot" or 2 bad shots, lol. First put caught the lip of the cup and did a 90 degree turn to the steep part of the green and rolled about 18' from the cup and the next shot stopped at the top of the hill leaving me 3' short. I ended up paring what would been an eagle or at worst a birdie for most golfers.

OK..I relent!

I had a 15' eagle putt today and 3-putted for par.  The first putt was uphill briefly.....then straight down to the cup!   I juiced it by 5'...and missed the comebacker.  #@$#@$^!!!!   After two excellent shots on a par5, I fail to make birdie!!!
