Couple of Sundays ago playing with my wife, someone thought it was a good idea to drop down a couple of Kraft MARSHMALLOWS on each of the fairways of the back nine! Trust me when I say a marshmallow from 30 yards looks EXACTLY like a golf ball! Me: "Wow, I crushed that one!" Get out there and it's a friggin' marshmallow right down the middle. My ball? Oh, that's it...back about 30 yards in the ROUGH! Kinda funny looking back on it. But it took a couple of swings to determine they don't go very far when you hit them! Dave

Can't be good for the fairway when they melt on it due to the heat.  Don't really miss playing public / muni courses where things like this are more likely to happen.

Haha, this is quite funny. I think I would get a good laugh to first few times I mistook them, but it would definitely get annoying if he was dropping them all over the course.

There's always something that looks like a ball on the course. Everything from balls chewed up by mowers to trash are on the courses we play. Amazing how far away from the range you can find a range ball. From a hundred yards away it's tough to tell. Someone has too much time on their hands to punk people with marshmallows, funny as it is.

    • You can’t “declare” a ball lost.
    • I wouldn’t do that. What problem(s) are you trying to solve right now?
    • I was always under the impression that once you declared a ball lost and dropped a ball, that was it. Once you declare a ball lost and drop another, the original is out of play.
    • This is going to hinge on some things. You “assumed” it went in the water, but did you have “KVC” - “Knowledge or virtual certainty”? How long did you search? After your search, did you have “knowledge or virtual certainty”? Most likely: You search, didn’t find your ball, and likely (in your opinion) thought you had that KVC. You dropped at the best estimate for where your ball crossed. You played the shot, as that was the ball in play. You found your original ball, but since you’d (likely) done the above, it was just another random ball, basically. It does tell you that maybe next time look “better” as you’d have saved yourself a shot, but it’s just a ball you pick up and ignore, basically, as the ball you substituted and played was fine. That’s all “most likely.” If you dropped a ball WITHOUT the KVC, that is a different can of worms. P.S. Here’s another topic about this:
    • I’m going to try hitting balls while restricting hip turn in the backswing tomorrow. It looks like I am rotating them way too far at the top of my backswing. I think it will help my sequence coming back down.
