I'll be visiting family for my Birthday and decided to use my one free round of gold through the Golfnow rewards program. I couldn't pass up playing a $169 course for free

Anyone ever happen to play at Dallas Cowboys Golf Club in Grapvine,TX ? If so, How did you like the course, the pictures look pretty cool.

Very cool!  I don't know that course, but I do the same as you.  I use my reward rounds for very high end courses that I might not ordinarily play.  I've maxed out at 10 free rounds this year and we're going up to Jacksonville to play the TPC at Sawgrass, and both of the courses at the World Golf Hall of Fame......fo free!

In David's bag....

Driver: Titleist 910 D-3;  9.5* Diamana Kai'li

Hybrids: Titleist 910H 19* and 21* Diamana Kai'li

Wedges: Scratch 51-11 TNC grind, Vokey SM-5's;  56-14 F grind and 60-11 K grind

I use golfnow all the time and love it but am I missing something? The only free rounds I see are for hot deals. Does TPC actually offer hot deals?

One of the better courses in DFW that a non private can play. Topography changes, sometimes links-like, sometimes parkland. Challenging. Different for DFW . Tough greens- undulating It'll be good if conditions good

Sweet, Sounds like fun. I live in Vegas, so anything that doesn't look like a desert, I'm more than happy to try out. I've also Played Fossil Creek my last visit, I really enjoyed that course.

Desmond, Can you recommend any more ? I was thinking of trying tour 18 or Golf Club at Champions Circle.

That's a good point, and worth a note. There are reviews posted on GolfNow for each course. I always check them before booking if it's a course I haven't played before, or in awhile. If conditions are an issue, that'll usually show up in recent reviews and it can sometimes save you disappointment. Even expensive/high-end courses can get iffy at times, or may be slow recovering from aeration....

Thanks

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

Just keep booking rounds. You get $10 off for 20 bookings, $20 off for 25 bookings and the free rounds start kicking in at 30 bookings.

If you book a 4 some, do you get credit for one booking, or 4?  I am just curious how long it is going to take me to book.

It only counts as one booking. What you can do though, is book a twosome and then go right back and book the other twosome for the same time and it counts as two. :-)

  • 3 weeks later...

Update: The trip was awesome, I had a chance to play two other courses. Got to play G.C at The Resort on the 8th and Willow Springs Golf Club the day before I flew home.

Cowbowys Golf Club was amazing. Perfect day, other than my game :( The greens seemed pretty quick but the fairways were fair. It was a great looking course. More importantly the staff was top notch, best I've seen. The club offers all inclusive non-alcholic beverages, Food from their restruant and whatever snacks you might need during your round on the cart. Also on the 7th and 12th hole there's a very hot girl grilling hot dogs and jalopeno sausauge to grub on during your round.  The cart girl also gave us something called a Mango towel later in our round. It was hot and humid that day but the cloud cover was nice.

If you're in the DFW area and want to spend less than 200 bucks on a great day of golf/food/ and service than I highly recommend Cowboys Golf Club.

Here's a couple pics, I snapped on my crappy phone.

par 3

Off one of the Tee Box's, Very cool hole.

VIP Par-king!

One from the Resort. Fun Course too.

Is the Dallas club a daily fee, IE they include range balls and you can replay based on availability or is it typical per 18 green's fee type of event?

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
