Senior rates are about $10-$12 less during the week. We don't play on weekends, as we're retired and avoid the crowds.

Two military courses (Admiral Baker, and MCAS Miramar). $20 and $22

Close to home, 3 championship courses:  $28, $29, $36 (seniors rate) with cart. Torrey Pines has really gone up, I used to play there for around $35. I think it is closer to $65 or higher now. I Played Eagle Crest last week (shot a 95), I usually play Castle Creek (92) or MCAS Miramar.  There are several golf courses in San Diego North County as well as in East County. Barona Indian Casino also has a golf course. Chula Vista Muni, River Walk. There are a couple of really cheap courses that a lot of people don't even know about.  Tecolote Canyon (Sam Snead), a few pitch and putts in Clairemont. The Naval Air Station at North Island has two (now called Naval Amphibious Base). Camp Pendleton has a nice course too.  I've never counted, but I imagine there are twenty or so in the county of San Diego.

Our St. Louis metro area sees a lot of dynamic pricing, given we have more golf course capacity than golfers the last few years. A bit of history:

Golf in our region has a dozen semi-private courses that were build back in the 1990s. The game plan: put a quality golf course next to a subdivision development, start out as semi-private, then go private when the memberships filled up.

(Around here, semi-private = yearly memberships + space-available play for open public.) In some cases, the club membership came with your home purchase. Most hoped to morph into equity private clubs (members have to buy stock), but this didn't always materialize.

Most got stuck in the upscale/semi-private netherworld. Problem: more golf courses than golfers.

Prices vary according to date and time of day. Also, if a day has few players signed up, the prices may drop by half within 24 hours of tee time. Also, you may be able to play one of the private clubs on a Monday, if open tee times are there, but the price cuts are not as much.

One of our semi-privates is pretty representative of the trends:

• The better public courses top out at about $50 for peak times, and get as low as $22 on occasion.
• The so-so public courses top out at about $40, and get below $20 with various regular and spot specials.
• All the publics tend to give a better price break on 9 holes than the semi-P courses. Most semiP don't even offer a 9 hole rate - probably let the twilight rate covers it.

The average private-equity club will let non-members play for $100 or less. The fee is less if a member actually invites you. But, the members can only bring in so many non-members a year for rounds. If you snagged a monthly Monday slack-day special, you would pay the higher price.

The super upscale clubs are pretty tight-lipped about such greens fees. Bellerive CC, site of the Senior PGA this May, had a special benefit tournament the following week. Rumor had it the buy-in to this one was north of $1,000.

A good course here is ~$45-50, although one does offer an after 4 deal of $20 play till dark during the summer.  Another course not quite that nice is $25 during the week and $30 on the weekends.  Farther south at the beach it's around $50-60 on the weekends, with some courses considerably higher approaching $80-100..

Depends on both the time of day and what day here. GolfNow has made a HUGE difference. I play a few courses for less than $20 twilight that are as much as $75 during the day. Perfect for me because I play most of my golf after work. It's cheap enough there are weeks I play every day and don't feel bad about just playing 9 for the 18 rate. One course offers unlimited range time with tee times and some nights I play 1-3 and get off the course after 3 because it's next to the house and head for the range. They give out bags of balls to use on the chipping greens as well so it's cheap fun.

Brown Acres, Brainerd, Moccasin Bend, and Trenton are all city courses and all pretty nice and all mid 30s on the weekend.

Central NY has a lot of nice course for modest fees.  Where I live, nice courses usually run $30-45 for 18 and a cart with a few nice ones are even as low as $25 for 18 and a cart.  Some high end courses including courses designed by Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones Jr, and Rick Smith run $75-$110 for 18 and cart.

I try to never pay more than $40 for a round of golf(18 holes with cart and range balls warm-up).

I have played Colorado National and the Rawls Course(both championship courses) for 40 and 35 with range balls respectively. And those are among the top public courses in their states.

I always try to book twilight times online, Golfnow has some amazing deals, I'm able to play great courses for 50%+ discounts.

That said, typical rates in my area are as follows:

Low-tier municipal courses(such as Lake Park 18 or Twin Wells)- $20-25 with cart and $6 for range balls. $15 at 5PM

Mid-tier public courses(Such as Indian Creek, Riverchase, Trails of Frisco, your average decent golf course)- $30-50 with cart and $5 for range balls. $15-25 at 5PM

High-tier public courses(Tribute Golf Club, Heritage, Castle Hills, Waterchase)- $70-150 with cart, range balls included. $50-75 twilight rates around 3-4.

As you can guess, I don't play above mid tier as I consider it a waste of money and balls for my handicap.

Looks like I'm paying good rates compared to some of you.

Right now, in the "off" season, there's a lot of quality golf to be had at a pretty nice discount.  $20-$40 even on the weekend for some very nice courses.  Twilight during the week can get you down to $10.   Some of these same courses will be $60-$100+ come November.... Most courses offer some FL resident discounts though, so even during the winter months I can usually play some very good courses for under $40-$50 on the weekends though.

So Fla is very similar to O-Town. We have every kind of course you can imagine from uber exclusive (Seminole) and challenging (Medalist) to affordable munis (WPB, Delray, Park Ridge) etc. My current track is Madison Green (we play the mens tee at 71.8/147) where a summer membership for 200 dollars gets you a 30 rate for 6 months out of the year, They incorporated a corporate membership that will extend this rate all 12 months (rates range from 49-79 in season). Generally, I would say the average public experience on a decent track would range from 25-60 dollars depending on the time of year.

There are some pretty decent public tracks in the Philly area. They can cost anywhere from $40.00 to $100.00+ depending on what you want. Some places you can walk and some place require you to take a cart, which will cost you a little more. The city courses (Walnut Lane, for example) are in varying degrees of conditioning and are cheaper, but the suburban courses (Center Square, for example) are usually in pretty good condition. There are higher end places like Ravens Claw, Glen Mills (HIGHLY recommended) and Scotland Run, which is in NJ about 10 minutes from the bridges. The can be anywhere from $40-$80 depending on time of day, maybe a little more on the weekends. They all offer varying degrees of "memberships", which can be great deals if you play a lot.

Kansas City area I pay around $40 (includes cart) for a public course, for a more upscale course $65-$80 (includes cart).  I actually joined a club in a neighboring community, I pay $50 a month, all the golf I want (cart not included), and I can play 8-10 other courses in eastern/central Kansas at no cost, just the gas to drive to them.

Toronto area. We have many nice courses around here, but unfortunately most of the really nice courses are private clubs. For example, Glen Abbey golf club, where they played the Canadian Open this year, is a private course owned by Clublink (http://en.clublink.ca/). The National Golf Club is also exclusively private, St. George's Golf Club, Hamilton Golf and Country Club, the list goes on. Of the public courses we do have, they can range anywhere from $30-$200 a round. The peak rates are from June-September and cheap rates are April-May and October-November. Too cold for golf late November to mid April.

You gotta love Fl. Don't ya Dave? There are easily 20 courses within 30 mins of my house and in the summer, I can play most of these for under $35.

In Connecticut, $50 to $70 +/- will get you 18, a cart and a bucket of balls for the range on a week day at some very nice places, per person. You obviously can go higher or lower depending on where you want to go. Since I take my Fiance with me 90% of the time, that cost doubles for me. So almost all my golf costs me over well over $100 per outing, but she's worth it! She's fun to play with... (Pardon the pun).

Since Ct. is a small state, weekends tend to be packed. But we are lucky because she has plenty of "Comp time" to use up and I'm swimming in Vacation/ sick time myself, so weekdays aren't really an issue for us. I haven't really looked into Golfnow.com and such, I guess I really should, as we tend to plan our rounds around spur of the moment whims... such as yesterday afternoon, we decided to go out this coming Tuesday. 10:42!

In my immediate area we have Breckenridge, The Raven, Keystone (Ranch & River) and Copper Creek.  Prices vary a lot depending to month (July and August much higher than May & October) and by the time of day you play.  I would put the average at about $100 but you can definitely pay less than half or 50-70% more.  Copper Creek is less than the others with a peak rate of $72.
