Havent' hit it. Read a lot about it.

The only factor on which people seem to agree and like is the feel/sound, the high launch, that it is an ultra low spin head, and you should look at going up in loft.

Some people are saying the typical --  "the monitor said this, but the range and course said something else.

That something else was wide dispersion. The discussion centers on the fact that while weight is forward and low, that decreases MOI - so you need a solid hit to generate distance and accuracy, that is, if you can get enough spin on the ball.

But to TM's credit, it can be adjusted to 13.5 degrees with the 12 degree model. And they say they've expanded the sweetspot to include the lower center as well as the center and up.

So if you are more of a high spin guy with lots of speed (hey, speed to me is 95+) and hit it in the sweet spot consistently you may like it, if you like the stock shaft.

Lower speed guys like me (88+ a little) will want to demo the 13.5 to see if we can get sufficient spin with a high launch.

As always, one must demo OUTSIDE

The club pro where I practice has the SLDR and I hit it a few times.  I like the head at address... Much cleaner than the R1.  But the pro had the club setup with a FADE bias, and x-stiff shaft, and the two shots I hit were push fades, aka - banana slice.

With any driver, I'd recommend a professional fitting on Trackman - outdoors, where you can try different shafts.  I won't buy another driver unless the fitting is done outdoors.

okay guys, thanks. I have my eyes on a 12* with stiff 45.5 ? shaft.  I currently have an R7 which I really like. I have never hit a driver with greater than 10.5* of loft, but OTOH, maybe that is exactly what I need. My drives are comparatively low traj, not extremely mind you, but lower than a lot of guys.  I like the idea of the sliding weight although I know its marketing. Although my R-7 has moveable weights and I had bought aftermarket weights, I ended up with the factory settings after all. And it is very easy to lose those weights if you are not careful.

Sent one to a reviewer this week.  I hit it and it was ok, actually hit it shorter than my current driver.

My r7 was my one and only introduction into moveable weight technology. I have the limited which I have been told was the last generation and heralded by many as the best. One reason that I  like it is the presentation at address. The triangular shape with soft angles made the head to appear much smaller than some of the behemoths of other brands. This SLDR seems to have some of the same attributes. (aside from that bright chrome/gray trailing edge).

Or you could just save a lot of money and buy a Mizuno MP-600 or MP-630 Fasttrack.  Same technology, although Im sure TM will find a way to spin it that they, "invented" it.

good point, but I am one of those persons susceptible to brand loyalty e.t.c.  (sometimes to my detriment) I bet TM "luvs" people like me. From what I have read, even TM refers to the Mizuno, but their retort is " But we located the slider more towards the toe where it is much more effective method to control the cog".

I remember TM saying they were working on the SLDR before Mizuno's fastrack made its debut - they might have even mentioned patents on it. But it has taken a long time for it to change from MWT (moveable/adjustable weights).

If you want the most out of a driver, I suggest a custom fit. I've found that stock in TM or for that fact, other OEMs, does not work well. If I was choosing an OEM with sufficient stock customization, it would be Titleist - at least they have several no cost upgrades, and they are adjustable for loft, lie, and weights. Ping would be next...

haha, at this stage of the game it would not be warranted. I doubt if I have any more than 10 to 15 years at best and it is unlikely that I will improve all that much. I do enjoy the game a lot more now because of more intense effort being put into it now that I have time.  As for Titleist....I worked for them for about 7 years and their quality is no better than any others as far as off the shelf product. The clubs are more or less only assembled by Titleist with the heads and shafts being produced by other vendors i.e. CoastCast,  Aldila ,Rifle, Graffaloy, True Temper e.t.c.  Now for the professional grinds, that is another story, they have a number of true "artisans", and they will generally cater to most of the tour players specific needs.

FWIW, after a search, an independent source stated that Taylormade's SLDR type patent apparently predates the Mizuno Fast Track patent.

I tried it for the first time this weekend with some interesting results. I do agree the movable weight makes somewhat of a difference, but it also came loose on me during a range session. More to come in my full review.

Yes I've heard that same thing.

You and Charles Howell!  Let me know if it keeps coming loose or falls out etc.

It would be interesting to see how the moving weight slide compares in performance to the variable-weight screws for the Callaway RazR Fit family.

And, the Mizuno MP.600 was getting its first price cut in late 2008, about the time I bought my Callaway HyperX Tour driver.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
