Hello,

I am looking for a little information on hybrid loft angles. I'am currently in the process of upgrading my irons so was looking at what club set up to use.

Whilst looking I came across a problem with regards to loft angles for hybrids compared to standard irons. For example I was looking at the Callaway X-Hot irons, now there 4 Iron Hybrid is 22 degree, yet there standard 4 iron is 20 degrees and 5 iron 23 which seems a little daft to me as the hybrid falls in a bad spot.

Same goes for titleist AP1's there 4 iron is 23 degress and there 4 iron hybrid is 21 degrees. Is this normal i was looking to buy a set with 5-PW then make up set with 2 hybrids for 3/4 iron which tie in angle wise to the irons??

Thanks

Anthony

You need to determine if you're dealing with traditional,stand-alone hybrids (shaft length between irons and FWs) or iron-replacement hybrids (lofts and shaft lengths highly similar to a parallel line of irons).

We discussed this last week. Check it out:

In your Callaway X.Hot example, the 4H has a slightly longer shaft than the 4i (evens things out on loft difference). But, you would have to hit both clubs to determine actual length difference, if any.

3H

40.75" Graphite shaft
4H 22° 40.00" Graphite shaft
3i 18° 39.5" Graphite and steel
4i 20° 39.25" Graphite and steel

In future, do side-by-side of spec sheets to see where the breaks fall.

Below is a comparison of the two, still baffle me why they wouldnt tie into one another so you can use 5-PW and then buy a 3/4 hybrid that ties into the xhot irons nicely

You might end up with an 18-yard gap between your 4H and 5i, but as a >20 HDCP you can live with it.

Yeah, I was just a little confused thanks for helping clear it up.

I should have taken more time before purchasing the hybrid I just got. I got an 18* hybrid to keep in line with the lofts of my irons but appears to have been the wrong choice. I wanted something 230-240 ish but this is more like 250ish. I would have been better getting the 21* which is only 1* lower than my 4i but probably would have had the distance correct due to the shaft length and small loft difference.
