How consistent are your scores?

This is prompted by some posts on another thread complaining about inconsistency.

So I'm interested in how much consistency is "normal".

This year, over 10 competition rounds on the same course, I've had 8 scores within the range 81 - 84. The two "outliers" were both 88s. My impression is that fellow club members, playing off a similar handicap, are scoring over a wider range - both lower ( in the 70s) and higher (into the 90s) at the extremes.

How does the spread of your scoring compare?

You sound like you are consistent in the 80s. I am consistently in the 90s, but would like to be consistently in the 80s :-)

There are some, me included, that become bored with hobbies if you don't steadily improve.  If I become stagnant and don't see better scoring over a 90 day period I have to change something.  It's a dangerous slope that should be avoided...be happy with your scores!

I was wildly inconsistent but have become much more solid towards the end of the season. Last 4 rounds on the same course 89-91-84-85. Better mechanics from lessons and just as importantly, maybe even more so, better course management and smarter decisions. Play conservative and avoid the big numbers.

My scoring average for my last 20 rounds is 78.9. 15 of those rounds are within 2 strokes of that average. Of the 5 outliers, two are higher (including a very memorable 88 :8)) and 3 are lower. I'd call that pretty consistent. I'm pleased with that though, because even with that consistency, I'm trending down overall over the last several months.....

Inconsistent at best though most scores fall in the 81-85 range, current average strokes over par is 13.4. I get some funky combined scores because I play a lot of 9 hole golf. Back to back days of 45-46 don't look good in the scoring history, especially if they put us out on the lower rated side of the course and it happens here and there. Looking back at my last 20 18 hole scores I have a low round of 77, +6 7.3 differential, and a high round 90, +19 16.7 differential.

My scores are generally consistent within the 77-79 range but have been trending upwards in the range of 79-82 recently after the start of the school year. Not being able to practice nearly every day has been a killer to me. I'm just glad that at least I know that my scores will generally be within a 5 stroke range from a bad day (82) to a good day (77).

I am like you.  My same home course scores - 8 of 10 scores are within very close range from 88 to 92.   2 will be out of that range but not by much.  Once in a blue moon, I will really do well or screw up big time.   Scores from other courses when converted to handicap index points will be also in close range - 15 - 17 points with several going outside of that.

Earnestly ;-) , you need to update your handicap (

Based on the above post, if I were to make a guess at your HI, is it 14?   How close am I with my guess? :hmm:

My current handicap is 4.3 and my anti-handicap is a 7.3. My 20 round average is 78.75 with rounds in 2013 ranging from 72 to 83 with most of them being in the 76-81 range. Like David, I am trending downward from last year where my average was just under 80. The big difference is really a few more rounds closer to 76. I can look at my Scorecard stats and see that it comes down to a combination of one more GIR, one more up and down, and one less putt needed per round.

When I was trying out for my highschool team I shot 41 on Friday, then over the weekend shot a personal best 35 with 5 birdies with my old middle school coach.(I stuck 4 irons inside 5 feet. Then proceeded to shoot 46 Monday. Lol
