One time I hit a friend when hitting out of a fairway bunker, the ball went sideways.

Another time I hit a stinger into a duck's face. his eye exploded and he was flailing around in circles. We called animal services.

I don't think this is what they mean by shooting birdies....

I hit myself once when my ball bounced off a tree in front of me. It hurt my pride more than anything else.

I feel bad for the duck... you went into a little more detail than I would have liked :-(

Couple weeks ago I was playing at a local course on the 18th hole along a lake and I do not exaggerate when I say there were at least a few hundred of those Canadian geese all over the fairway.  Thought I was going to hit one but I didn't.

Yes I have done my fair share of hunting, but it is not something I really get into much on a golf forum.

My wife hit a bird and broke its wing.  It probably died overnight - there are coyotes.   She also hit me (that may have been intentional) but I refused to die.   I dropped down to my knee though.

I haven't hit a duck but one time this summer my buddy did.  He hit a line drive shot with no loft on the ball.  Beamed a duck right in the bill.  The duck walked around in circles for a little bit.  We thought it received a concussion.  After a few minutes the duck went into the water and swam away.  My buddy felt terrible also it was a coincidence that he was playing a University of Oregon Ducks golf ball as well.

One of my highschool buddies was lining up to hit his ball when all the sudden we hear FORE and then THWAP like a quarter second later.  The group behind us teed off and their ball hit him right in the side, basically where your elbow lands when at rest against your torso.  He dropped down onto one of his knees and I thought he was gonna start barfing blood.  He was a stocky dude, probably 5'10, 220 so some of the padding probably helped.  He got up and was able to walk it off after a minute or so but I think he had a gnarly bruise for at least a month.

I was playing at the local muni with buddies during college one day and shanked an iron into the fairway running parallel to us and sure enough there's an asian guy that barely speaks english standing right in it's path.  I knew it was gonna hit him so I yelled four, he had plenty of time to move but didn't budge from his posture and it hit him right in the thigh.  I went over to apologize but he was freaking out so I just gave him the ball as a souvenir and moved on.

Similarly, my wife was hit by a ball on 16th hole of a local course and had to walk it off.  It landed on her thigh and it left a ball mark, dimples and all. It turned into a minor bruise.

It wasn't the guy's fault as his ball went through a tree that my wife was resting under, waiting to tee off.   He couldn't have seen my wife and thought it was safe to hit.   The funny thing was, he was so shaken by it that he didn't bother to finish the rest of the round.

Yes, my damn 5-iron refused to "cut" and I hit a member of the group in front of me square in the jaw from 175 yards on the fly. It figures that he was the only member of the group that didn't duck when I yelled "fore," but instead turned around to see where the shout was coming from. I gotta give him credit though, after collapsing on the ground in a heap, he shook it off pretty well and continued about his round like nothing happened. Not bad for a 65 year old guy!

I was playing in a 2-man scramble in law school with some buddies. Me and my partner were about 40 yards ahead of the other team in our foursome; we were all good friends and played together. One of the guys hits a hard, low 3-iron dead left and hit my partner on a frozen rope right behind his right ear. He lost vision in his right eye for about 5 minutes. Paramedics came and everything. Worst part (not really) was we were leading the tourney but had to quit on the 17th hole.

    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
