So, from a FO view, I clearly have a bit of targetward head movement from top of the backswing to impact. I also see a clubshaft lining up with my left arm just before, rather than at or just after impact.

Is it plausible that by working on keeping my head from moving targetward on the downswing, I'll learn to hold the left arm/clubshaft angle longer as a fairly natural reaction to avoid burying the clubhead in the ground behind the ball?

Hmm. I would say I have the exact opposite problem. My head moves backwards away from the target and I release my angles because of it. I can find plenty of guys to move targetward and keep the wrist angles.

Usually if the head moves away from the target in the backswing you see the hands start to flip at the ball, because your left shoulder rises up and you see people loose spine tilt, so the hands loose there wrist angle to compensate.

But in both regards you want a stead head. Its ok to have the head move slightly in the backswing. Some good golfers get away with moving the head back a bit. But in the downswing the head will be very steady, maybe some downward head movement (tiger woods sit down move).

I could see moving your head forward would cause you to come in to steep, so you might compensate that way, by trying to shallow out the swing by flipping.

But, just work on keeping the head steady. You can do slow movements, really work on feeling the club through impact with the head staying still. Check out some of the 5 key's videos in the Swing thoughts thread, a lot of good tips and drills there.

Maybe, depends how you go about keeping the head steady.  Could be a few things at play as to why your head goes forward on the downswing.  Also, as Mike pointed out, some head movement is ok.  That pic might be on one end of the spectrum though ;-)

First thing I would do is make sure the weight is forward at impact.  Squash the ball (video below) and flex the left knee over the left ankle on the downswing.

My point with the picture was to show that even you go more forward than recommended you can hold the angles. I guess I should probably but a disclaimer on the picture saying only for demonstration.

Yeah I just wanted to make it clear for people that might stumbled on this thread and think steady head means a non-moving head.

Sorry was referring to mchepp's post, his "real" name is Mike ;-) Your post was good too. :-)

    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
