Two very good acting performances.   I give it a birdie also.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

A strange movie. Kind of hard to follow along too. Overall, a good dark thriller. I give it a tap in par.

Here's a topic for a brief discussion. Name all the famous movies you've never seen (as in sat down and watched - clips on YouTube or whatever don't count).

My list…

  • The Shining
  • The Godfather
  • Casablanca
  • Gone with the Wind
  • The Sound of Music
  • Clockwork Orange

I mean, most of them are old. I don't know of any recent "great" movies I haven't seen.

But the top two (or four or whatever), I should watch at some point. At least the second one. The first, meh.

Casablanca and Gone With The Wind are on my list as well.

I'll add

The Color Purple

Dr Strangelove ( I own the damn thing, but I repeatedly fall asleep after ten minutes)

Seabiscuit

The Blind Side

I have also never watched any of The Fast And Furious series

Never felt I had like six hours to watch the Godfather, and I couldn't care less about The Shining. I've seen so many articles about it, etc. that I know everything that happens.

I've seen all of those.

Okay, The Shining is good, but it's been copied so many times now that none of it seems original anymore. And unless you've been living under a rock you know what happens.

The Godfather holds up very well.

Casablanca also holds up well. Which is surprising. Considering it was made only 2 years or so after Gone With The Wind.

Gone With The Wind = I'm sorry. This movie sucks so much ass it's hard to understand why anyone ever liked it. The acting in it is on par with the Twilight Series or any daytime soap opera. Yes, it had an enormous budget for the day it was made. I think adjusted for inflation it is still the most expensive movie ever made. Yes, it was the highest grossing film for 25 years and adjusted for inflation still holds that title. BUT MAN, THE MOVIE SUCKS! I understand why its a part of cinema history. I think it was also the first time a black person was ever nominated for an academy award.  You may want to fact check me on that. Anyway, I get it. BUT THE MOVIE SUCKS! The acting is so over-the-top, it's acted the way people make fun of the way people over act. ... Okay, moving on.

The Sound of Mucus = Again, I apologize because I understand the historical ramifications of this film. But it isn't that great. Look, I love musicals. I do. But this is way too much kids singing.

Clockwork Orange = I get why this movie is considered great, or at least important. But it isn't fun to watch. It's disturbing and there are no likeable characters. I know its commenting on society, basically saying that neither the left nor the right are any good. Just mirrors of each other. Both horrible in their own way. Again, it's no fun and not a movie that gives you a lot of hope for society.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

I’ve never seen or wanted to see The Godfather. I hate mob movies, Scarface, Goodfellas etc. I’m half Italian and have had relatives who thought they were mob but were really just pathetic humans. Clockwork Orange was one of the worst movies I’ve ever sat through. The others are good to great movies for me. Casablanca is one of my all time favorites and I can quote most of it. I know every song in The Sound of Music and still have a crush on Julie Andrews.

Never saw Frozen or Frozen II. Some Like It Hot is a timeless comedy with MM. the rest are snoozers.

I’ve never has the desire to see any of the Fast and Furious movies or movies like that. Stoner movies are not that funny to me although I’ve seen a few.

Ooh, thanks, I haven't watched that one in ages.

I finally watched the Godfather for the first time a couple years back.  I'll say this, it's better than the Deer Hunter.

I can only stand that movie like 1-2x a year. It is a slow burn. I know some can watch that movie all the time, but I don't find it that rewatchable. I prefer a movie like Casino or Goodfella's as way more rewatchable than The Godfather.

For me, here is my list...

1. Casablanca
2. Gone with the Wind
3. Chinatown
4. Clockwork Orange
5. The Big Lebowski

I looked up a few lists of top favorite movies of all time. I think I did a pretty good job so far seeing a lot of he movies on the list.

I recently started to watch old mobster movies like the Godfather, Scarface, Goodfellas, Donny Briscoe, etc.

IMHO, the Godfather (all three films) is a must see if you like any crime drama movies.

All of those are worth a watch. I suppose they won't resonate as much if you are not of a certain age (meaning: old). But if they were released in your youth you may appreciate them more. just MHO.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
    • I had an article on Cam Smith pop up along with this..... Current major eligibility list for all LIV Golf players Here's a look at which majors, if any, all LIV Golf players are eligible.
