Playing for FOUR years and hitting SHANKS into the hole equates to a (21 Index)

"So I have my game nicely on the way to becoming scratch. Its only a few more years."  Hmmm

Could be along time before you reach your goal of being a "Scratch Golfer"

Good Luck.

Club Rat

PS. I do care about my scores.

Also, looks like you're caring about the score too since you have an index (21) and you're stating you're "on your way" to becoming scratch...

I haven't met anyone who doesn't really care about the score, no matter they shoot a 130 or a 90... at the end of the round they all want to know what they shoot...

This should help you guys understand where I'm coming from with my golf knowledge. Golf isn't about how good the swing, what you score, or what people think of your playing ability.

You can play better simply by trying on the course to get the ball into the hole in fewer strokes than your last round. It's pure logic. think before you post please.

This should help you guys understand where I'm coming from with my golf knowledge. Golf isn't about how good the swing, what you score, or what people think of your playing ability.

Why? So far as I can tell you've routinely ignored questions asked of you, responses to your posts, and so on. Why should better players continue to listen to what you have to say when you seem to be incapable or unwilling to engage in a discussion?

I've made the point several times that just because you're working on mechanics on the range doesn't mean that you're going to automatically think about it on the golf course.

You can play better simply by trying on the course to get the ball into the hole in fewer strokes than your last round. It's pure logic. think before you post please.

You can play better by improving your swing too. Moe Norman practiced. Jack Nicklaus took lessons. Tiger Woods works as hard as anyone.

I don't have 17 minutes to spare right now. So answer the very basic question: "Why should we watch this video?"

I'm going to merge many of your threads. They all seem to be the same topic.

Edit: There, done. I'm not sure what title to give it, but I'm open to suggestions.

Seriously, @xerex250 , it would behoove you to listen to what other people have to say AND respond to them. There's likely some truth to what you keep saying, but it's lost in how dogmatic you seem to be as well as how you routinely ignore any counter-points others raise.

You just defined golf.  Anyone who plays golf is trying to get the ball in the hole with the fewest strokes, unless you're a sandbagger.

First off, its not about the swing. Second its not about your score. Its about whacking a ball into a hole. Who cares about score? Its just a record of your strokes. People worry too much. It's just a game people. Honestly look at the target choose a club and hit that stupid thing. If you miss, hit it again until it gets in the hole. Golf is that simple. I know you guys are going to argue with me about this so think about what you say before you say it. I don't prefer insults over not saying anything at all. Mother always told us that if you didn't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. So don't insult me or anyone else. You're allowed to disagree just not insult me for my "lack of golfing knowledge". Handicap doesn't matter. What matters is enjoying yourself on the course. And if you want to improve, its simple. Play more golf. Human engineering is like that. The more you do something the better you get, but only if you focus on the main objective, which is hitting the ball into the hole.

If you really could care less about improving your game and only are worried about the swing, try this drill.

Mishit any shot on purpose (Driving range only lol) try topping (difficult) thinning fatting shanking and all sorts of stuff. You cant do that with a perfect swing. If you can mishit shots on purpose, and in control, you can hit a golf ball perfectly too.

Remember, hit the ball in the hole, which is what golf is anyway. Also, don't insult, argue with others or me, you can disagree, but in a professional manner. If you don't think what i'm saying is true, then you can most certainly ignore it. But it has worked for me over these four years of hitting balls on the range and playing ten rounds, so I have my game nicely on the way to becoming scratch. Its only a few more years. And if I play more, I will improve.

Once again, if you think i'm talking nonsense, you may well certainly ignore this post.

Discuss as you will.

I have no problem with how others approach the game or what pleasure they get from it. If score and improvement are not important to you, that's great. But like many others, the challenge and failures are a big part of the enjoyment. For me (at this point), the score is a quantitative way of showing progress. It's not to brag or compete.

Here is my opinion from the perspective of not yet having a good swing nor being successful at shooting low scores.

My goal is to put all the technical information and time available towards learning a "proper" swing. After that's developed and becomes second nature (natural swing), I can then play golf simply by concentrating on course management and having a positive attitude.

What's a proper swing?

1. Easily repeatable. As few of moving parts as possible. Simple to diagnose when it goes awry.

2. Can be carried through to old(er) age with minimal damage to the body

3. Can achieve as relative accuracy and distance while meeting the criteria of 1 and 2.

I've tried the positive attitude and swinging without thinking about it. That type of playing will only take me so far since I don't have proper mechanics. It's very important but it isn't the whole package.

On the flip side, if by some freak of nature I were to develop a flawless swing, I'd still have to execute it. That's the mental side of the equation.

I've read excerpts from Dr. Rotella's book Golf is Not a Game of Perfect . I think there's a lot of good stuff in it. But I think it's oversimplified to believe a good attitude alone will really improve your game.

My point is that you cannot have one without the other. Just my inexperienced opinion.

As for not caring about the score, I've had to tone that down just to keep my sanity. But like most, there's a part of me that wants to be the best at everything I do. Doesn't mean I wouldn't be happy breaking 90 on occasions.

Not for nothing, @xerex250 , but our commitment to "less thinking" (and when you do, better thinking) on the golf course also plays a big role in this project: .

    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
