Maybe more of just "watch the height of your head." You can "sit left" without lowering so much.

I didn't see this before I went back to practice some more. I'll try it in front of a mirror.

Full swings from the end of the session, feeling more right elbow higher:

Contact was better, but it's still...off. I'm going to have to find the feel that worked in Erie that produced this swing:

Gotta slow it down and review. Maybe build myself a swing path aid. I feel like I'm not getting the arms extended properly.

Good practice session today. More right elbow, less sit, better contact overall.

I mad a minor setup adjustment. I address the ball with too much right shoulder ER to begin with and I have to basically counter-rotate in the backswing to get into a little bit of IR and the right elbow higher than the left.

Today I made the conscious effort to be a little more IR at address which points the underside of my elbow less in front of me and more towards the target. This allows me to get into the elbow position I want by simply turning without manipulating the elbow.

I also leaned a little left because I felt like my weight distribution was closer to 40/60 than 60/40.

Could probably do with a little less shoulder tilt at address, too. Maybe a smidge more sit. Now I'm just nitpicking.

I thought I was the only one with sirens in the background when I record my swing!😜

Haven't been able to get out and play in a couple of weeks and even my practice time has diminished a bit.

Still struggling between doing the sit move too much and too little. If I don't consciously do the move, I don't do it, but sometimes I do too much. Not remotely close to being ingrained yet.

Still hitting toe shots, so failing priority #1. At this point I think I'll be happy if I could eliminate toe hits by the end of the season.

Thing is we pretty much got rid of those quickly.

Look, take a fresh look at what causes the toe shots. You're most likely either:

  • bending the elbows to pull the club head in a bit.
  • swinging slightly left or right or doing something so that the sweet spot lines up too early or too late.

I recommend making shorter swings with solid contact - punches with long arm follow-throughs - to get the feeling of center contact back. Even if it's by putting a tee outside the ball and trying to hit both the ball and the tee.

Yes, we did. Even got me shanking the ball once in a while. I haven't caught one on the hosel for a couple of weeks, now.

I kind of knew this was the answer (shorter, slower, etc.). Part of it is my own fault, being impatient and not having as much time to practice so I'm trying to speed things up to stay in "game shape" on the chance I can get out and play. You'd think I should know better by now 🤦🏻‍♂️

Rain finally let up so I practiced a bit today. Added in the long arm stuff and got much better contact.

I remember now that I was doing some of this in Erie with the pump drill, letting my arms come down with the sit move. Lately I've been doing the pumps with just the sit move and leaving the hands behind and I think that's where my recent issues stem from.

These ended up longer swings than I intended. Have to remember to swing out, even with the mat pointed in that direction.

Tee shot from the 9th hole in today's round. Yes, the camera angle is off. No, I didn't take the video with the intention to analyze it. Just wanted see what I was doing and check a couple of things, plus the sun came out and I had a little time.

This shot started on line I wanted (right edge of fairway) and ended up in the left rough. There was a little bit of a breeze 😜

I could never get the GorillaPod to stay still on my bag. Maybe I got a cheap imitation one.

Which one did you get? I had the small one which kind of sucked, then I bought the next size up. Phone holder is Squarejellyfish, had to replace some of the hardware on it because plastic wingnuts do not hold up to repeated use.20190518_080024.jpg

I had the same problem with that one. The one I have now works great.

View this round on GAME GOLF

I hit the ball solidly today with a fade. Even took divots! Any toe misses were only slightly toed and I definitely didn't hit any off the chrome, so I'm back on track.

Misses today were push-fades. Open face. Happened fairly often, too, like one in four shots. Even after I adjusted my aim and shifted my target to the left edge of the green, I'd start the ball at the center of the green or even towards the right edge, then it would fade further right.

But, not bad, eh?

Not that one round of SG data is great, but what were the breakdowns for your four skills compared to, say, a 5 handicapper?

-3.61 driving, -1.31 approach, -2.96 short game, -1.17 putting

So nowhere close. Yet at the same time if I played the whole round with the understanding that the left side wasn't in play, I probably would have scored better.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
