This past weekend I played at a golf course that has 3 separate 9-Hole Courses.  I only had time to play 9 holes and shot a 5-over on a Par 36 course.  With that being said, does that at all equate to estimating that I would have shot 10-over on a full 18 holes?

I've had stellar back nines and I've had back nine implosions. So...no, it doesn't equate to anything beyond scoring +5 over nine holes. Nice score though, nothing to scoff at.

What they said......

if you REALLY want to think about an 18 hole equivalent, instead of extrapolating a 9 hole score, you should just wait until you play another 9 for real and then just pair up those two half rounds.......

no it means you shot  41 for nine. you can enter a 9 holes core for a handicap

Exactly.....

But you don't need to "wait".......

You enter your 9-hole score and use the CR and slope for that particular 9.  The course should be able to provide you that information, or failing that, you can refer to the Course Rating and Slope Database on the USGA website.

When you subsequently enter a second 9-hole score, even from a completely different course, the two scores will be combined to create a full 18-hole round.

I know that is legit and proper but it doesn't seem right to me. The back nine has elements of fatigue and psychological considerations (on track for a personal best or worst) that can lead to a back nine charge or a collapse. Combining two front nines seems to ignore those factors.

So they even out. Roughly. Maybe.

Handicapping is not a perfect science, but the only other way would be, what, to discard nine-hole rounds? That seems less "good" than combining them.
