Appreciate the confirmation.

My son never practices lag putts because he tells me that he's never that far from the pin on his first putt. Yeah, sure. . .

I suppose if his chipping is good, but he hits greens from approach shots, too, doesn't he? Just FYI, the median player on the PGA Tour is 22'5" from the pin on approaches from 125-150 yards.

Long putting (>25') is an SV2 skill, so it's definitely worth working on. Your son should know this, unless you've been holding out on him ;-)

I have to have some edge when I play against him.

So he has the worst approach shot in the history of golf?  Or, in other words, he has never once gotten on the green from further than 15 yards off? ;-)

Cause, ya know, otherwise he's way better than anyone who's ever played on tour...

Nah, I've played with him recently. He gets about 10 GIR, and very few of them are so close that he doesn't need to lag putt. He just tells me that he never needs to practice them. :-D

Well, I finally got the Sony Action Cam to take on course video. One potential limitation is the battery life (120 minutes). Thinking of getting another one to take FO and DTL simultaneously and allow for continued on course coverage with 240 minutes total battery life with two cameras. Just started working on figuring out how to use it effectively.

Also, got access to an Optitrak , and will see if it makes any sense to use it for evaluating my swing?

Lesson learned, don't use a short tripod. All the video I took this morning is butt view. I'm going to make something that clips on an alignment rod or something to take video on the range better. FO is going to be a little challenge for the range when they use mats.

Great news is that V1 seems to work with 2 Sony camera s according to the documentation. Going to have to look into this more.

EDIT: $1695, wow!

The good news is Sony has some SW that takes multiple Action camera video and combines them into one video. Going to need to look into that and see if I can make it work with V1 or some other SW.

It might be cool to do but I doubt you'll see any added value over using a camera. I don't think any new information on what you need to work on will be "revealed". Not saying don't do it, just don't expect too much.

So, the good news is multiple cameras can be controlled from the Sony SW. I played around with the remote control on my phone through wifi. Sony SW also tiles the videos together and time syncs them. I'm looking into gps features in the phone SW to see if I can use it for tracking shot filming locations. The plan is to take FO and DTL videos for every shot on the course. Going to try to make the setup process quick and seamless. If I can record the GPS location with the phone that would be perfect.

I think next you need to implement shot tracer technology to your DTL camera.

Seriously, how cool would it be for every golfer to have that in their vlogs?

More stretches and some golf swings with the mirror.

No ball and the transition looks reasonable, with the ball my swing plane changes. I'm working on trying to initiate the action with my hips again. It's like I forget it almost immediately after I stop doing drills. So, every ball I hit, I am planning on working on a smoother transition originating from the hips as I am practicing now.

It's so much easier to make a decent swing when there's no ball involved. :-X

Really bad range session, but at least I'm not making that quirky thing at the top. Now, I need to focus on the lateral motion, and while actually hitting a ball.

So, the hard range balls spin more with longer clubs (probably by design, duh). This seems to be why distances start to "compress".

Getting a second camera next week for 2 axis range work and extended vlogs. . .

From the descriptions, it looks like very high resolution cameras essentially doing frame subtraction to locate any moving objects in the FOV of the camera. They seem to use 2 of them to triangulate the distances.

LSW is more amazing than I thought. What I learned at the clinic made a lot of things click.

Drives are straighter and consistently longer. Working on getting my irons distances commensurate to my new driver average. When I get excited, my irons go to crap. Need to figure out my proper "tempo", slow down and relax. Those swings help the balls go the furthest and straightest.

Working on my new putting stroke, which seems to have improved my lag putts.

Game management/shot zones are next on my list.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
