What do you do when you are even with the 150 mark? (Laser and/or GPS)

  1. 1. Would you use your laser or GPS when you are on a familiar course, lie next to the 150 yard marker with a center pin position?

    • Yes. I always check my GPS or shoot the target on every shot
    • Most likely yes. There are times I might not check the yardage but I almost always do
    • Most likely no. If I trust the 150 marker I don't need any more information.
    • No. My game is not that good and "about 150 yards" is close enough for my purposes
    • No. I don't use a laser or GPS.

My golf isn't really at the stage where I shoot for the pin, my goal is to get better GIR stats. I would pull out the range finder if it was heavily guarded green so I knew the distances I needed to carry to avoid traps or hazards.

You are playing a course with which you are reasonably familiar.  Your tee shot is 4 feet right of the 150 yard marker in the center of the fairway.  Do you shoot the flag with your laser or look at your GPS?

Probably not.  I would take a quick look at the pin to see if it is front, middle or back and then add or subtract 10. Also, having played the course a few times I should recognize how the hole plays in relation to the yardage (uphill-more clubs, downhill-less club, wind conditions, etc.).  Finally, I select my club, go through my pre-shot routine, and fire away.  I'm an old school golfer and have played this way for more than 50 years.  I make par or bogey more than 90% of the time from this distance, so there is no need to change now.

    • I can't wait to hear about them.  I'm probably not getting new hybrids this year, but if I did, these would be near the top of my consideration list.  Please let us know how they are.
    • I read something recently in either Golf Digest or Golf Magazine and it listed I think the top 50 players and what they played for irons.  It was a blades/ combo set/ whatever set type of article.  I showed that they were very few players playing a full set of MB’s.  If I recall correctly, most were gaming some type of combo set.   Clubs like the TM p770 are just so good now, their benefits are more attractive to better players.
    • Thing is TV shows the good shots, the putts being made so we all think they hit everything close and make every putt. Go look up PGA tour proximity to the hole... you’d be surprised it’s not close like you see.
    • I would have to agree, as agile and strong as they are with a game of golf, they probably would look pathetic in a fighting ring. If and when they get their dup together that will be a good show. Although I think the media has hyped it beyond what it really is and would just be a competitive round of golf like most others.
    • I dunno. Watching two meat heads who probably have no idea how to fight isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I’d rather see them play some serious golf and really give the tour a show.
