Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Yep there is definitely an "old guard" in golf instruction that wants to keep their heads in the sand.  Being proven wrong is good, that's how you learn and evolve.  Golf is changing though, slowly but it's getting better.

BTW I really enjoyed the movie when I saw it.

"I hate losing more than I want to win".

Always amazes me how many top golfers say that they're motivated more by fear of failure. Never been convinced that's an entirely healthy attitude.

I haven't seen the film, but read the book a while back and thought at the time there were obvious parallels that should be applied to golf. It's been good to see golf get more stats savvy since then - although more recent work seems to blow up much of what golf's original empirical research guy, Pelz, has written. I'm looking forward to Mark Broadie's book.

I love that line. I have to agree with it. I think there is more of a low than there is a high when your comparing losing to winning.

Yep, I think statistics will help enlighten people. Some will be stuck because that is how people are. I think golf is heading in a good direction.

I read Lewis's book too and I realize the large dramatic license the movie took and it's not accurate and all the characters are fictionalized in certain aspects and to take the portrayals with a grain of salt, but I love the gist of the theme, that new ideas (legitimate, verified and able to be proven) can run into barriers due to entrenched whatever. This is one of my favorite baseball movies, up there with Bull Durham, The Natural, Major League, Eight Men Out and Field of Dreams.

For golf, I would change one of the quotes to:

I hate bogies... I hate bogies more than I love birdies.

So Billy Bean doesn't look like Brad Pitt?

:-P . Who knows the actual truth? I read that Art Howe was inaccurately portrayed, he's much nicer in real life, but who knows. Chris Pratt was basically playing himself, a goofball. Many experts attribute the amazing season more to the young pitching staff.

These movies, like ZD 30, Argo, are a mix of truth and fictionalization. I don't know enough about baseball so I take everything with a grain of salt. It's like my Mom watching the Daily Show. When Stewart makes up what I think is an obvious non fact for laughs, she thinks it's true. I have to explain all the pop culture references.

    • Day 112 - Worked on pitching for a bit, letting the club fall while turning my body.
    • Just want to share a quick update with everyone. I went to the range the week before last, even though I took it easy no significant pain occurred just a slight twinge when I swung my #4 hybrid. The most encouraging news was no soreness the next morning. However I think switching back to graphite shafts is definitely gonna happen, my mp15's were fitted with X shafts and having something lighter will help.
