yes, exciting. If Tiger doesn't play people don't watch. Why? Because those tournaments are boring, plain and simple.

The implication is that "Tiger" is exciting.... The "in the hole" garbage adds nothing to the "excitement" of Tiger - or anyone else for that matter. Tournaments can be boring. I watch the majority of them, but often while doing something else.... even then, when I hear some ignoramus shouting "in the hole" I cringe and shake my head. Apologies to ignoramuses everywhere whom I may have insulted... just my humble opinion....

I find it funny when some drunken a-hole yells "get in the hole!". I'm new to the game though, and I'm sure I'll be annoyed after a while .

The get in the hole thing is so rediculous...it's been screamed at golf tourneys since as far back as I can remember....I mean, heck, the chances of any tour player holing out a 3-iron...even if he's within striking distance of the pin, are so slim that the exclamation is rather amusing...

it's almost as bad as "you da man!"

Does anyone else find this as annoying as I do? Every gallery seems to have one jerk that yells, "get in the hole!" after every shot. The golfer can be teeing off on a long par 5 and some knucklehead is going to holler "get in the hole!" It drives me insane. It's like the golf equivalent of holding up a Bic lighter and yelling "play Freebird!" at a symphony concert. I'm just waiting for the day when some pro finally snaps and goes upside some idiot's head with a big head driver. It would have already happened if I was on the tour. Really now, if these people want to act like no-class morons at a sporting event why don't they just go to a NASCAR race or something? (rant mode off)

I agree and the problem has existed for years although it seems to be getting worse. One has to write it off as just an idiot wanting to be noticed, and I do equate them to the MTV or World Wrestling Federation mentality.

What would you rather have them yell.

"Get close to the green."
"Beautiful Drive, you really smoked that fairway."
"Fantastic Chip, you really almost got it in that time."

If you dont like it, do you know what you can do?

Press the mute button.

Seems like the players could care less about "these" fans aswell. I believe they are worried more about idiotic photographers taking pictures in their backswings. Maybe you can start a committee somewhere to regulate the type of people that can spectate at games, tournys, etc.

I can't imagine the pro being upset, given that:
1) The call is made after the swing, so as to not interrupt.
2) The caller is wishing the pro well.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I think even the dummies that do it are purely mocking whoever it was that started that annoying trend. They're probably the young frat boy that's wearing plaid shorts and his collar "popped" while drunk as a skunk at a golf event.

So the guy thinks he's cool, like someone else said...press the mute button if it's that bad.

This must have started in the last ten years or so. I don't think it was being done when I started playing in '96. It is annoying because it is just an attempt by some idiot fan to become part of the show.

Who will stop 'em? I know one guy who will stop is the guy who yells it in my ear.
What would you rather have them yell.

How about nothing? Golf got along fine for over 100 years without this kind of behavior. The real problem is that in an effort to yell right on the swing some fools actually jump the gun and start before impact. If it happens in front of me, there will be a confrontation.

Golf can do without the loud, rude behavior that has crept into other sports. SubPar

its not annoying, it just a dumb thing to say. i agree with subpar, people should mostly just shutup and watch. cheering is perfectly fine, but as for yelling comments, golf could do without it.

whats annoying is-
i was at torrey during the buick and me and my buddy were following phil around the north course. he hit his drive and a spectator yelled, "go tiger!", who was playing on the south that day. now that is annoying. if you want to cheer for tiger, go follow him around, dont yell it at phil. i dont get pissed easily, but that is just rude.

I semi-agree with this, It comes down to where you want the game to be in todays world. Really there's going to be conflict when some people want the game to be like old times where everyones a gentlemen. Or you want it to be commercialized and popular amongst every available audience. Its John Daly vs. Bobby Jones. I just hope people who yell that, dont think they're cool or funny.

    • I’ll have to pay attention more attention to the area when I’m there. I know the area to the left of the bunkers off the tee is fescue/native vegetation but I can’t remember what’s around the tee boxes. Something to consider still is that you can’t see the green from the tee. You can’t even see all three bunkers IIRC. So I could have a line on the drive but still not know where it ends up. I think I’d be a lot more comfortable going with driver if I played here more regularly and had a log in my head of where shots tend to end up like I do at the other county courses. I have never hit driver on this hole off the blue tees. I have done it from the gold, but the length and angle are different, and during casual rounds when I didn’t care that much about score. I’m not sure the best time to try it is the second hole of a tournament. Or at the very least, I’m uncomfortable with the idea and that’s probably enough reason not to do it. I see what you’re saying. Wind is supposed to be pushing out more to the right on Saturday, too. I could probably aim right at the bunker and not end up in it. I don’t think there’s anything near the green other than that tiny bunker that would give me trouble. Well, trouble in addition to my short game deficiencies that is. Yea, me too. All I’m thinking is get it in play, put it near the green, chip on and two putt for 5. I’ll have plenty of opportunities to use my length as an advantage later. You realize all of this theory crafting will be moot when I chunk it off the tee, right? 😆

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
