So Anyway by John Cleese.  It is good so far.  Not riotously funny, but a great insight on how he became a great comedic actor and writer.

Chesapeake by James Michener.

Pretty good, second time reading it. Hoping to get the 3rd book of Ken Follet's excellent Century trilogy for Christmas.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Nice. I've been holding off on "A Memory of Light". I think I might want to buy it, put it on the shelf and start from the beginning and go all the way through the series.

I can definitely see it being a series that you could read again and pick up new stuff.

I will give you my brief review on the series (I think I have read enough now).

The story is VAST...  A lot of stuff going on, keeps things interesting and makes me keep reading.  Good character building (I feel like I actually know some of the main characters).

On the negative side (somewhat), I feel that he tends to ramble on sometimes.  To me the story could be condensed a little without losing much substance.  The continual bickering amongst the women characters gets old as well.

All in all, it is a good fantasy series, and I would recommend it to others.

Not going to rank it higher than Stephen King's "Dark Tower Series" or Weiss and Hickman's "Dragonlance" novels........ :-D

Black House by Stephen King. It's the sequel to The Talisman which was a great book. Black House actually came out over 10 years ago but somehow I missed it. I know that King sometimes gets a reputation as a "Hack" because he puts out so many books but when he's on point, he's one of the best fiction writers ever.

What???? It's head and shoulders above "Dragonlance" (which I love by the way) and The Dark Tower lacked direction so badly I gave up after the first two novels.

Some of the WOT novels I've read 4-5 times, some 2-3 times and the last four or so I've only read once.

The Wheel of Time is better than "Dragonlance" in some ways.  To me, it is way, way deeper.  Much more going on.  It is sometimes just hard for me to get past Jordan's ramblings.

Raistlin at his peak or Rand Al' Thor?  Who you putting your money on?.........

I agree the Dark Tower lacked direction.  It was more just a bunch of smaller stories.  For some reason, I just can't put down King's books.

If you have not read King's "11/22/63"  you should give it a try.  I really enjoyed it.

Raistlin at his peak or Rand Al' Thor?  Who you putting your money on?.........

Is that a joke? Raistlin was a pretty potent mage for sure and I'm a big fan, but Rand is the Dragon Reborn, dude breaks the world... in other words, one heavy ass mother-****er. Like Gilberg's uncle, not to be messed with. :-P

Rand's Balefire is so potent he killed the dude that killed his friend and killed him so deeply that his friend didn't die anymore because the dude died before he could kill Rand's friend and was essentially erased from history. That's some heavy ****ing magic right there!

Plus Rand doesn't need spell components to kick ass, he just opens up to the Source lets it fly.

Raistlin is a Grenade.

Rand is a Nuclear Bomb.

Boy....I don't know. Remember the book where Caramon sees the future where Raistlin kills Takhisis (a GOD!!)... Seems like he pretty much wrecked the world there as well. Master of "past and present" is some pretty heavy magic in my book.... "The doors of this tower shall remain closed and the halls empty until the master of both past and present returns with power"......

I just finished So Anyway by John Cleese.  If you are a Monty Python fan, I highly recommend it.  It is an autobiography of Cleese from birth to Python.  It doesn't go into a lot of detail about the Python days, but it is a fun read.  The most interesting aspect of it is John Cleese never really intended to become a comedy writer.

Halfway through the third book in Ken Follet's excellent Century trilogy. If anyone wants to develope a deeper understanding of world history through WW1, WW2, Cuban Missle crisis and Vietnam without getting bored to tears by dry text books, this is the ticket. Absolutely riveting.

Interesting.  Would you classify it as "fact-based fiction"?

    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.
    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
