There comes a point in each winter where I get a bit crazy. Not sure I'm 28-degrees crazy yet, but 38 with light rain suddenly sounds like a possibility.

28 degrees with the sun out and no wind can be very comfortable. What's uncomfortable is hitting wedges into the frozen green only to see them bounce 25 ft high and fly into the blackberry bushes behind the green.

TIL: what graupel is.

After a few days of rain, the temperatures really dropped in the Phoenix area on Monday and it got cold enough for some graupel, also known as...

I played on Sunday when it was 28 *F.  It was nice as most people stayed home.

But now, it is snowing.  Ugh.  I am hoping it melts before my Saturday's tee time.

What do you wear at that temp? I have trouble keeping my hands warm hitting into my net below 30F.

I wore a long john and 4 layers on top.  I also had a ski gloves on in between shots.  Fortunately, the sun came out after about the 5th hole so I could take a layer off and the ski gloves.

It also helped that I walked.

I hear you.

There are times in October to December when conditions are harsh.  I always think that in January or February, the day would seem great

Longing for those warm days of playing golf in short sleeves.

With this snow, it might as well be *K.  Either way, there is no golf.

Shoulda given yourself a chance to warm up.  Otherwise I hope you put those balls in your bag for next range session.  Soon, to avoid depleting the range ball inventory.

I played 9 on Saturday when it was 32 and sunny. Had to use handwarmer packets and keep my hands in my pockets when I wasn’t swinging. Walking helped a little too. The ground was still frozen underneath, but not as bad as when I played at the end of December and had my approach shots bouncing off the green. Shots were actually sticking for the most part. Putting was tough, I’ll blame it on the temperature and not having much feeling in my hands. I’ll take what I can get at this point, it’s been ugly out, but at least there hasn’t been too much snow here this winter.

For, it’s my hands and flexibility below 35. I feel much tighter. My hands don’t get warm even with Mizuno winter gloves on

Meh. My clubs are buried so deep in the shed, they may not come out until June. So many other things have me depressed right now, I don’t even care about winter weather. Let it freaking snow 3 feet for all I care.

So... I'm not knowledgeable about this, but I believe we can't play with frost because that damages the grass.  Why are sub-freezing rounds allowed?  Wouldn't the grass be damaged then too?  (And for the record, I'm happy to play in the mid-30s, but not when the wind is more than 20mph.)

Good question.  I don't have a degree in agronomy but I think it's because if the turf freezes over night and then it's thawing out in the morning footsteps can do damage. But if it's hard frozen after several days apparently you're good to go.
