I am using this winter to work on a swing to move forward with.  I took lessons spring 2013 that had me working on getting my weight over my right foot on the back swing and shifting it all forward on the down swing to generate power (im a righty)  over the course of the season I became inconsistent and had to put a lot of band aids on my swing to cover swing flaws.

I have looked at front on views of my swing compared to the tour players and notice I move very far off the ball on the back swing to the point that my head gets behind the ball then everything almost lunges forward on the downswing. I noticed a lot of the tour players stay more centered or at least look more center in the videos

Where i am going is.  what kind of swing should I be looking for. I got so confused with all the information out there, about getting weight behind the ball, center pivot,  or stack and tilt  etc.  there is so much info to decipher from.  I will post my swing tonight in the the members swing section.

Help.

9 HC

shot shape is power slice with driver

straight with irons longer ones tend to fade shorter ones tend to draw

I think 1 of my many problems is taking the club to far inside and forcing an over the top downswing.

Yes there is a lot of confusing information in golf.  Strongly recommend you take a look at these two threads.  All great players do 5 things well, on this site we like the 5 Simple Keys system.  The Keys are based on facts, not opinions.  If I were you I would work on Key #1,

Take a look at the first couple videos in this thread, good info on how the body has to move in order to keep the head steady.

If you are looking for a swing to "mimic" per say, Gary Woodland's swing is powerful, accurate, and not a lot of "compensatory" movement.

I don't know that I'd mimic anyone's swing because I think we individually have our own swing.  But I've always loved Steve Stricker's swing and how simple it seems to be.

Stricker for me too. Partly because I think it's a good swing and partly because of all of the swings I see out there on Tour I might have a better chance of mimicking that swing than any of the others.

Of course having a better chance is still a million miles away, and will probably remain there. :-D

understandably I'll never mimic 1 of these guys swings. i could just hope it's a distorted attempt. my question related to how they move in back swing ect.  moving off ball or keep center. steep club or flat.  stuff like this.  just something to compare to and go back to when swing starts to go awry.

    • This is a fun leaderboard. I don't feel particularly vested in anyone specifically albeit we all know one man is looking like he will most probably put this championship to sleep by the time the day is over today. On a different note, I've changed my tune on BDC in the last year or so. I found myself applauding and genuinely happy for him for making the cut yesterday. Iffff a LIV guy wins this year I would rather it be him. Unlikely Scottie who seems to have supreme control of all his levers, he lives a bit more on the edge and yet has the perseverance and might I say, infectious positivity of a small time hustler. Dude just keeps hammering away. Love it.

    • I think it’s more about conservation of angular momentum. If the hands didn’t slow down you wouldn’t release it and the clubhead would barely be moving faster than the hands. The hands start pulling up and back as you near impact, which makes the club rotate around its own CoM as well as rotating around the system, which makes it move faster, which as you noted is the idea.    You can watch all this happen if you find a YouTube video of a pro golfer face on and go frame by frame you can measure on your screen how far each piece moves per frame. As those distances change that’s acceleration and deceleration. You’ll see the hands slowing down and the clubhead speeding up
    • I see, so it must have to do with the shaft being flexible and bending as you swing it.
