Surfed thru the release threads and can't find what I'm looking for. Do you release at the ball or after the ball? I have seen videos where expert A says release into the ball and expert B says release a foot or two after the ball. Is there any trackman data that compares the two? Is One better than the other? It feels more powerful and quick to release at the ball rather than hold the lag angle past the ball and releasing after the ball is gone. Does this make any sense?

You'll generate the most speed by achieving Key #3: Inline Impact.

This means that the club shaft is lined up with the left shoulder at impact. That makes the radius (left shoulder to clubhead) as long as possible, for the most speed.

99% of golfers line the shaft up too early because they're worried about "release." You might define "release" differently but 99% of golfers (or more) don't need to worry one bit about "releasing" the clubhead. That's why this thread exists: .

Thanks iacas. When the club shaft is parallel to the ground and your hands over or close to over the ball, do you actively push your right hand? Or is your right hand passive? I believe ben hogan said he wished he had multiple right hands from this pposition. Just trying to figure out if it should be a hit with the right hand from here, or passive and more of a swing feeling than a hit feeling.

Do you have too much lag now? Line the shaft up well after impact right now? Where is the butt of the club when the shaft is horizontal on the downswing?

From my perspective that is what i see. I guess I could post my swing for you to show you what I'm talking about. But that's really not what my question was about, I was asking what the school of thought was on the right hand when the club was in the slot, parallel to the ground before impact, as stated in my second post.

Then I'll be blunt: it's highly unlikely the butt of the club is anywhere near that far forward at A6.

I guess I could post my swing for you to show you what I'm talking about. But that's really not what my question was about, I was asking what the school of thought was on the right hand when the club was in the slot, parallel to the ground before impact, as stated in my second post.

And I realize that's what you're asking, but the answer depends on what you're doing. If you're the <1%, what you may need to feel is very different than if you're in the 99%+.

I understand. From my perspective it appears that it is but checking in the mirror i can now see it is more like my right thigh. My tilting away from the target makes it look (from my view looking down) more forward than it is. :-)

Did you ever figure out the answer to your question? I'm struggling with releasing lag early...when I'm with my coach he has me holding it well and the low/mid penetrating ball flight is amazing. Increase in distance and I feel like I can push/pull through the ball as hard as I can. In between lessons I somehow get away from it. Wondering if you found any drills or thoughts for this... thanks!!

Won't the look of the inline shaft and arm from looking at a golfer face on (3rd person), look like forward shaft lean from he perspective of the golfer (1st person)?

That's unfortunate for you..:-O My vision doesn't stop working, and my mind doesn't stop interpreting when I swing the golf club. But how about this.... See if you can use your imagination, or even put yourself physically into your impact position and answer my question. :-D

Putting yourself in a position is not the same as trying to see hand/arm/shaft alignments during an event that last 400 microseconds.

      I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

      Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
