Unbelievable and Bizarre

I know I'm new, and I don't want to be perceived as a chronic complainer, because I'm really not.  (One day I want to be able to help someone with their game!)  I want to share this bizarre experience.  I checked with the staff after the incident, and they assured me that I'd done nothing wrong, and were shaking their heads along with me.

It's roughly 45 minutes before my tee time.  I was given a cart early because the driving range is a bit of a hike.  I finish up at the range, and duck into the restaurant for a bite.  It's right next to the Pro Shop, and it's got a small parking area right off the cart path.

Long story short:  I parked my cart at an angle in front of the restaurant (the way I and everyone always have), and two other carts pulled in next to me, using the same angle.  The guys in the other carts enter the restaurant while I'm still removing my glove and shoes.

I start walking away from my car, and notice this guy walking toward my cart (no idea where he was coming from).  I immediately spun around when I saw him jump in my cart, back it up, and move it into the middle of the cart path!  He was angry that I parked "in the middle of traffic".  For a split second, I thought I was being "Punk'd".  Until he and his partner started hurling insults.

That's the crux of it.  I'm really interested in others' accounts of completely bizarre behavior encountered out there.

As far as I could tell, and I had no way way to mask it out, one guy hopped a hole in front of another guy. The next tee was free, in fact there were at least two free holes in front of them. So, I guess the "hopper" decided to hop this hole and go where he doesn't have to wait so long?

The slow party representative, decided that it was inappropriate for anyone to get in front of them. Chased him down on foot and started yelling at the "hopper". The "hopper" yelled back, and I thought they were going to kill each other.

The people over the hill and across the "river" another 100 yards on the other side of me asked me what was going on, as it was really loud yelling. Not sure where they got their training, they must both be drill instructors for the Marines. I think my ball started to oscillate on the green due to the volume of their shouting. I just shrugged my shoulders and told them that one guy hopped to a free hole, and the person being hopped was not agreeable to this action.

I think it was audible over the entire course.

I'm in Florida, and probably play six courses (all very close to me) on a regular basis.  On this particular course, there are no keys to the carts. Not sure how they do that... took me by surprise the first time, but haven't really thought much about it since.

I had to abandon the round my wife and I were playing last year when a knock down, drag out, all holds barred fight broke out on the green ahead of us and I had to go break it up. One guy had his shirt completely torn off and some swelling on his face and the other one almost had his finger cut off at the end joint (I figure he got it caught in the shirt the wrong way as he was tearing it off of the other guy).

I wasn't in the mood to hear their explanations but it was evident that the fight had nothing to do with golf and probably went back a ways. One was probably a late 40s father and the other was an early 20s boyfriend of his daughter.

I felt sorry for the daughter, who was very upset, and put her in the cart with my wife and split the other two up and got them back to the clubhouse, and gave the one with the hurt finger directions to the hospital. Don't know who they were and none of them have ever been back.

BTW. I had commented to my wife several times that day before that happened that the daughter had a really great golf swing. I hope she's still playing after all that.

Well, they finished up and moved on to the next tee box, which was about 50-60 yards left of our green. They had just about made it there, so my buddy tees it up. He hits a low hook that miraculously bounces off of two trees and bops one of the guys in the back of the head. This guy turns around, clearly enraged at this point, and starts running full speed towards us. The next tee box is about 180 yards away from us so it took about 20-30 seconds for him to reach us. It was one of those moments when it feels like you're watching something in slow-motion. The whole time my friend is starting to freak out and mutter expletives to himself. So the guy finally reaches us and sacks my friend, full speed. He then continued to cuss him out and threaten to kill him if he ever did it again. Definitely bizarre, considering it was a complete accident.

It didn't happen me but a guy that I have golfed with many times just started a similar thread yesterday on an Irish golf forum I visit:

His experience:

He was out playing a round on his local course when he was 15 years old.

As he walked up the fairway he noticed a large group of teens coming towards him in the distance, some of them where on horseback.

Could you imagine seeing that as you walk up to your ball.

Anyway, the young guys and their horses stopped when they reached him and proceeded to steal all his golf gear and anything they could get their hands on and left him high and dry on the fairway...

The young guys that robbed him where part of the Irish Travelling Community who are an itinerant people who keep horses so I completely believe him (he is an honest guy too)

The course I play on regular has a settlement of these Travellers close by and they roam the course with their dogs hunting for rabbits in the summer time.

I have never seen them on horseback or had my clubs stolen though...

Which I would respond with my own, something like, "Hey dude, take two minute out of your busy day and mind your own f**king business. And stay the hell out of my cart."

Things like this haven't happened to me but if so I would simply flex my frequent flyer muscles as a course regular and alert the staff. I saw people get a police escort from the course twice in 2013 after getting mouthy with staff and guests. The ranger will pull their cart key and the cops would be there before they could walk off.

Seen and been in a few confrontations myself.   I played a lot of cheap muni/public courses at  twilight tee times.   People are in a hurry to finish their round and get really annoyed at slow group.  And the courses can't seem to attract enough volunteers to "police" the courses.   Starters are gone by 1:00 pm.   Marshals are only interested in picking up lost golf balls.   People sneaking in from parking lot without paying and they are not necessarily the best people to play golf with.  One of my confrontation was with 4-some in front and I ended up as single behind the group.   Despite the fact they are 3 holes behind their front group, they would not let me pass.   Finally, I asked one of the guys to see if I can pass (we were all on a same par 3 tee box).  He agreed but apparently, the other 3 didn't see him waving me forward.   When I hit my tee shot, one of the four-some got mad and was yelling at me on how I should not have hit, etc..   To make a long story short, we ended up in loud argument over it.   After 18th hole was played, the same four-some sneaked back to hole #1  to replay another round for "free."   That was the final draw for me to join an upscale club and never regretted since.

Hahaha... Actually, I meant as in he tackled him. After, the initial tackle, the guy just stood over him and yelled... So there wasn't a need to "defend" at that point. Also, the guy was quite a bit bigger than my friend.

Aaaah.  That sounds a little more realistic.  I was having a hard time picturing the guy running up at full speed and hitting your friend in the junk.

Was I the only guy that read "sacks" and thought "hit junk" instead of "tackle"?
