Good day all, I think I have set my sights on getting a Titleist 714 Combo set between the AP1's and AP2's in KBS tour shafts. Does anyone currently play a combo set and if so what is your set up? I am looking at the 5,6,7 from the AP1's and the 8,9,PW in the AP2's. I dont go any lower than the 5 because I game a 3 and 4 hybrid which I am extremely consistent with. Any thoughts, experiences? Thanks guys.

You should be able to combo any way you want. It might cost more or less because your switching out one different club for another, but any golf store will be able to order what you want.

Excellent idea!!  When ordering the combo set, make sure you specify the lofts that you want.  There's a bit of a gap between the AP1 and AP2 7 and 8 iron lofts.  The AP1 7 is 32 degrees and the AP2 8 is 38 degrees.  Six degrees is a bit much between irons.  Those are stock specs, so unless that's no biggie, make sure you get them to adjust the gaps between the irons to fit your needs.

I toyed with the idea of a mixed set.  The AP1 and AP2 are only one degree apart at the 6 iron, AP1 @ 29* and AP2 @ 30* so that, to me, seemed the logical place to make the set switch.  After studying on it, reading a lot of comments from players already using both models and some personal reflection on the state of my game I went with a full set of AP1s.  They are some of the best looking "game improvement" clubs out there (IMO) and I couldn't really see a reason to go with a mix of AP1 and AP2.  I am, however, filling the bottom portion of my bag with SCOR wedges, so that still constitutes a "mixed set" I suppose.

I have a combo set similar to what you are looking at. I went with the 714 AP1 4-6 and AP2 7-GW. I like the set a lot, but honestly if I had it to do over I would go all AP1. Just my .02

I love the idea of the combo set.  I won't really be buying anytime super soon, but if I suddenly won the lottery this year I'd buy a combo 712 CB/MB set...

mdl..just curious on why you would go with the 712's when the 14's are out?

Ha.  Just a typo.  Been fantasizing about the 712s all year and didn't update that fantasy to the 714s for the post!

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
