I think I can claim a level 2 as well. My 6 year old has been golfing every every weekend so far for the last month and actually getting pretty good. He's got a driver, fairway wood, 9 iron, and putter. We are even walkingΒ every timeΒ out. He's got his own bag and pull cart.

Played my 3rd round of the year with my target *new* golfer. He is a severely relapsed golfer that had not played in years before getting him out there again this year.

First 2 rounds, I kept my mouth shut when he violated any rules i would normally jump on my normal partners for,

Today, he was introduced to the *3 off the tee* rule and allowed to play in our skins game.

I was a bit impressed that he must have read some outdated book and left his driver at home while teeing off with his 3 wood on driver holes.

Overall, he broke 125 and won no skins but finished the round with a bogey (to cut me) and left on a high note. Not quite there with making him a weekly golfer, but made him ride with the guy he did not know in our foursome to hopefully scam him in.

He is fortunate in the fact that his wife is pushing him (and us) to get him back out there playing, not sure what his glitch is, but i will find it and make him a regular golfer again.

Tonight, we start introducing the wife again. My 5 month old daughter (probably 2 months from being able to stand on her own so she can start working on her putting) loves being outside, so we take her to the golf course. My wife agreed to take her clubs tonight, and if the mood strikes her (her words) to actually try and play.

Update: Wife skips the first 2 holes (we have our 5 month old daughter with us, so the 2 of them are having a ball playing in the cart)....gets up on the 3rd tee, 150 yard par 3, and proceeds to knock her 3 wood to about 15 feet. Hit the ball really well off the tee, managed to get more airborne than not, and didn't get frustrated putting.

Her question last night "is there enough time to go to the driving range"....we may be on to something!

I didn't pledge before hand, but I did get the ball rolling on creating a golfer. My wife. She's been wanting to learn for years, and now that our kids are getting a little older, we're underway, and she's fully hooked. I told her this is her year, and I finally convinced her to invest in decent clubs, and she's been practicing daily. She went for her first lesson last week and came home and in a good-natured way, shoved me as she came through the door and demanded "Why didn't you tell me golf was so awesome!" For the record, I had. Anyway, she's looking forward to playing her first round some time in the next couple of weeks. I'm not sure which of us is more excited, but either way, it's a win. :) I've also convinced my 9yo son to try the First Tee program in June. Hopefully I'll have 2 new golfer in the family this year.

Why not get involved! Not so much starting from scratch but working on two people. The first is one of our friends who goes away each year with us on our golf holiday. Each year he says after he will play more, each year he does not play till next year. It is my mission to get him to come out with me and the other players and start to get him playing more!
Secondly, one of my karate instructors he keeps saying he liked to hit the ball years ago so I'm trying to get him to some of our games or just down the range! Those are my missions!

Guys,

I have a friend Adam that I will pledge to help create a golfer. He is from Long Island and is moving to Los Angeles, heΒ only plays once or twice a year but will be playing with us this Sunday and would like to be included on our weekly game.

We will be also heading down to Rodger Dunn in the next week or so to get him clubs, currently he is renting from the courses. We will also be looking forΒ lessons in his area (Redlands) but he will be moving to Chino Β once his wife is able to get there house on Long Island ready to sell.

He has no friends out here but me so I will be giving him all the TST information so he can also join in outing as well as this forum.

I'm In. I started a golf group at work of casino dealers. We play on Mondays at a local course, $20 with a cart. Cheep enough for a newbie yet nice enough for the regulars.

My new guy has not found any lessons yet in his area but we are playing Sunday again.

He is still renting but that will come to an end once we both have time to hit Rodger Dunns.

I also have been telling in of our pending SD trip I am sure he will be in and joining the Sand Trap.

Follow up from Sunday, Adam shot a 123 at Santa Anita Sunday, being 6'4"and renting clubs I am sure did not help any. In two weeks when he is back from NY we will be taking him down to get his first set of used clubs and have then extended.

With the course very empty yesterday morning we helped him with putting, ball placement as well as what club to use. This was a little challenging since we did not know how far he could hit each club so we used a general distance.

Still he had a good time and counted every stroke, fun part was seeing him on many of the par 4's in 3.

You shot at Santa Anita, and. . . you. . . didn't. . . call us? Give us a call next time you come up, did you enjoy yourselves? The 18th is the only hole I yet to make GIR, tough hole. Kaili and I couldn't go anyway it was. . . Mother's Day!

On topic, I got promises to go next weekend from my two candidates, and possibly two kids and their parents.

Went to the range yesterday with my mother, one of the people I'm trying to get into golf (or, in her case, back into golf, but she hasn't played much in my life). Great thing for mother's day. She hit a few great shots with her wedge, her 6-iron, and her 5W. We'll have to get her a full set of clubs before too long. She also wants a lesson (I've probably exhausted the help I can give) but is already talking about playing a course. Since she's hit a few good 5-woods -- at least two shots went past the 150 yard marker -- maybe we won't need much more than nine holes at a par-3 course before she's ready for a regulation course (there are three great - at least, for purposes of this thread, and for me - regulation courses near her)

I believe I may have moved to level 2.

Sunday evening, nice Mothers Day evening, we (wife, 7 year old, 5 month old) go to the golf course to play 9 holes. Wife as is typical sits out the first 2 holes since you can see the pro shop from the tee boxes and she is still not ready for that fun. On the 3rd hole, Son (7 year old) hits it about 100 yards toward the 130 yard par 3, starts showing off for his mom. She gets up and knocks it on the green and starts taunting him (great Mothers day gift huh).

For the next 4 holes they are having contest to see who can hit the ball better off the tee and who can make a longer putt and they are loving it.

I will jump in on this.Β  I will get a new golfer going this year and it will be a hard one.Β  Going to get the wife out there. She hates when I golf so this will be good.Β  I hope to have her out this weekend with me at the range for a workout.Β  Lets get this started.....
