It's changed the way I watch tv. It's so portable. And with the SDK released, it'll be interesting what apps will be cast functional.

I watch much more content through YouTube now and the smartphone is my remote.

Yeah, *bought* one at the end of last year because I had staples points to burn.

So far I have only watched Arrested Development on Netflix - but I like it so far.

I have used it a bunch to stream live music concerts onto the TV. That and comedians, there are many full comedy specials on youtube.

Why do they call golf "golf"?  Because all the other four letter words were taken.

I've been throwing around the idea of buying one.   I'm not sure I'd use it.  We have two android tables, 4 smart phones, two laptops and a desktop computer.

Reddit has a subreddit called fullmoviesonyoutube. I watched Desolation of Smaug, Raid Redemption, The Transporter on it. Yeah, I know, not legal. Usually good movies available, it's so easy, I can't resist.

On the legal side, watch lots of news on it - The Newshour, Washington Week, Charlie Rose, Democracy Now!, Reuters, AP, etc...

Also lots of 2-3 hour recordings of old golf tournaments on YT.

I got one for christmas and thought I'd never use it but I was wrong.  I already had YouTube on my tv but its much easier to find the content on the phone and cast it.  I also bought a season of The League in the Play streamed that. I've streamed the espn3 broadcast of a football game too, which was great because they have the spider cam behind the play so you can actually see what's going on (and no Joe Buck!).

My only complaint is that I think it should be able to simply mirror my desktop or device.  You can stream from google chrome on the desktop but not a phone or tablet.  To stream from a mobile device you need an app with chromecast built in.

Yeah, I can easily find news pieces, queue them up and I've got an hour of straight through programming. Smartphone as a remote is so intuitive. Makes the set top box remote even more antiquated. And I don't have to yield control of my smartphone. Any number of people w/smartphones with me can cast to the same tv. No line of sight required.

Google recently made the SDK available publicly so there's going to be a whole bunch of CC enabled apps soon.

Google knows more about me than ever though. The info they have on me compared to some Nielsen family is massive.

My wife hates this.  Every now and then when she's watching Project Runway I'll cast youtube videos of my golf swing from the bedroom.

There ;)

From what I can tell online, you've got to be fully invested in the apple ecosystem to really get the most out of apple tv.  There appear to be some apps that claim to be able to connect android to apple TV but work arounds are the antithesis of the seemless integration that makes these products valuable.

Of course, I haven't done much research on this and its entirely possible that Apple TV plays better with non-apple products.

That's fine. I don't care about Google stuff. Despite their statements, they're decidedly more and more "evil" every year.

Yeah, totally agree that they are becoming more evil and less trust-worthy.  Their google+ integration into everything is really annoying, too.  I wish apple would just take an open approach because they've got some great products (love my macbook pro) but I like the andriod phones and tablets.  So cool products like Apple TV are essentially unavailable to me.

I have a Mac Mini attached to my TV. I just like trying a little bit of everything. Except Microsoft. :-)

Sorry, but the "Apple isn't open" argument never works on me. I feel it's a bogus argument. The tiny shred of "openness" that Android adds comes with multiple and larger downsides, IMO. Apple provides plenty of "openness."

Well, Apple TV doesn't work with my phone or tablet.  So that's not bogus to me.

I'm pretty happy with the chromecast anyway.

That's fine, and a valid point… except that AirPlay is available to Android developers.

I think I originally used the word "compatible" before editing, which is probably a better word.

It looks like Chromecast will be able to mirror soon . I might get one for each tv in my house if that happens.

@dsc123 - How will you use the CC when it can? Play video files saved on your smartphone? That sort of thing?

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
    • I had an article on Cam Smith pop up along with this..... Current major eligibility list for all LIV Golf players Here's a look at which majors, if any, all LIV Golf players are eligible.
