Not so far. Just golf, beach, and dinner every day. Taking one of the dolphin cruises this evening and played at Glenlakes this morning.

Beautiful.  Did you catch a drink at The Flora-bama?

Went kayaking today around Alligator Island and  made it over to the Flora-Bama tonight after walking around at The Warf and eating at Bob Baumhower's.

I remember when Flora-Bama was one room and some tents. It has grown quite a bit.

A couple of guys were doing a lot of Hank Jr. songs when we got there and then this band was playing when we left.

So…

I have a side-by-side window in my office. The bottom window on each side slides out. On the left I often augment our central air during the summer with a window AC unit.

The layering on the bottom, from outside-in, is a screen shutter, then a storm window, then the double-paned insulated window. On the left side where I put the AC unit there is no screen shutter. The AC unit hasn't been turned on in over a week.

I'm not sure when it happened - sometime in the last week or so - but the inner window of the double-paned/insulated window broke. Big crack, all the way across.

I'd say "thermal shock" but nothing's happened lately. The weather has been normal. There's no damage to either the screen, the inner window, or the storm window. Just a big crack all the way across, with spider cracks outside of that. The frame appears to be fine as well.

(Oddly, the crack is at the perfect height where it's unnoticeable from the office chair, and the curtains obscure each side where there is more cracking. So it could have been cracked for a few days for all I know… Plus I was gone from Tuesday until late Saturday.)

That is just weird. I would think that if something hit the window you would see the impact with the spider-web break. To me it looks like their was either a stress fracture or the window was faulty in someway.

If it wasn't thermal my best guess is that the window slammed shut, and the vibration along the wood frame cause it to break. There is more breaks along the edge, and at the corners. :hmm:

Yeah, nothing hit the window, or it would have had to either make it through glass on either side (and a screen on one side), or originate from inside the double panes of the window. So, no, nothing hit the window.

It looks exactly like what a stress fracture would look like (so far as I would know), but it's not like I don't open and close the window, and the house was built nearly 25 years ago. So… just seems odd it'd crack suddenly.

Nobody's shut the window, and for it to be thermal it would have to be a fairly fast change in temperature, I'd think. Right? So that seems unlikely too.

I dunno. Maybe it was always close, and a straw broke the camel's back, so to speak. Now, to get it repaired… without spending a bunch.

I think you can buy replacement sections and change it yourself.  I do not think you would have to change the whole window.  That would involve trim, siding, etc...

I'm pretty sure I can just get this sliding piece out, and cut out the piece of glass, and have that done again. That's why I said "repaired" not "replaced."

Still, though, if it's $300 I'd prefer not to spend $500, if you know what I mean.

I know a contractor and have already talked with him briefly. I'll see what he has to say.

I had a similar fracture on a window that was only 2 years old this past spring. Houses settle and this happens. Fortunately, I just called the window company and the came out and replaced it.

What did they replace? Just the piece of glass?

The window slides up and down just fine.

Oh well. :)

I'm not sure. I was at work when they came. I'll ask the wife.
