The announcers at The Masters today mentioned Tiger's par 3 scoring this year, so I wanted to look at some statistics. The latest entries on the par fives boggles my mind. He used to obliterate the par fives and these days it's a liability rather than a chance to gain shots.

Par 3, birde or better. Percentage and rank:

2001: 18%, 28th
2002: 16%, 29th
2003: 18%, 2nd
2004: 14%, 52nd
2005: 14%, 1st
2006: 15%, 1st
2007: 14%, 29th
2008: 15%, -
2009: 16%, 12th
2010: 12%, -
2011: 18%, -
2012: 17%, 6th
2013: 16%, 16th
2014: 19%, -
2015: 17%: -
2016: -, -
2017: -, -
2018: 14%, 96th
2019: 23%, 1st

Par 5, birdie or better. Percentage and rank:

2000: 62%, 1st
2001: 61%, 1st
2002: 58%, 1st
2003: 60%, 1st
2004: 55%, 2nd

2006: 57%, 1st
2007: 52%, 2nd
2008: 50%, -

2012: 48%, 14th
2013: 49%, 8th
2014: 26%, -
2015: 46%, -
2016: -, -

Crazy how something like that could have taken him out for the tournament. Kinda hard to fault that guy, though. He was trying to keep people away from Tiger but hit that slick grass/mud and went down himself, hitting Tiger's ankle it appeared.

What I noticed even more was the great shot out of the trees to the green!

There are some things I don't care for about Tiger and his past, but I can't help but root for the guy and hope he can stage a comeback for one epic season.

Very encouraging day for Tiger. His top 12 finish means he's eligible to play the Masters next year. Still hasn't won a full field event in the last five years, but he's making progress.

Best of all, I'll never again have to hear that stupid stat about not winning from behind.

He’s the only one who didn’t hit the ball in the water. #GolfWisdom 😜

It'll be interesting to see what events he plays over the summer. If I had to guess, I'd imagine he'll play the Wells Fargo, the PGA, the Memorial, and the U.S. Open. Then he hasn't played any of the events between then and the Open. Then mayyyybe the WGC-Fedex St. Jude, but it's at a new course and the week after the Open. Then it's another course he hasn't played, then the Wyndham, then the playoffs.

So he'll probably/maybe end up playing an event he hasn't before.

Because of the rule? The one Spieth violated last year? If yes, I don't think he has to as a lifetime member.

If just because the schedule is different… then probably?

In 1997, the first year he won the Masters, Tiger became the first player to win over $2 million in a season. His total official money for the year was $2,066,833.

Today, he won $2,070,000 for one tournament.  He should be very grateful to somebody for the increase in purses.

I believe he was/is the biggest influence when it comes to increased purse sizes.
