@Pendragon, i will say what you seem (IMO) to be waiting for.  I think the owner of this site (and those he is affiliated with) are the best instructors in the world. If money was no object, and I could have any instructor out there, I would still pick Erik, Mike, or Dave. Not even a hard decision for me.  You may consider me a moron for that, but I think it makes me pretty smart.... :)

I'm not waiting for anything. You're kinda missing the point, but do whatever floats your boat. Cheers.

Good news! You'll be happy to know that Hank Haney is #10 on Golf Digest's new 2015/2016 ranking of the 50 Best Golf Instructors in America, up from his #11 spot on their 2014/2015 list. So maybe he does know just a little bit about teaching the game. I guess now you and a few others here will now be saying that those morons at Golf Digest don't know anything. LOL.

There is a lot of stupid stuff written by Top 100 and Top 50 instructors.-LOTS of stupid stuff.

Thanks for the input. I just get a kick out of some these guys here on this site who think they know a lot about the golf swing...and maybe they do...but they seem to resent guys like Haney, Harmon, or Leadbetter who have achieved great success through teaching. I'd still contend that Haney must have been doing something right during the 6 years that Tiger relied on him and had some nice success. Surely Haney still knows something about the swing, contrary to what some here say.

Well, at least you didn't say they're morons. :-)

I am a better instructor and know more about the golf swing than Hank Haney.

My biggest problem with Hank Haney is that every time I hear his name, all that I see in my head is Mr. Haney from the "Green Acres" TV show, and that ruins any thought of Haney as a competent golf instructor.

FWIW, he didn't talk like Mr. Haney, although I secretly wanted him too. :-P

I don't know anything about what Haney knows or does not know about golf and the golf swing, but you don't have to be a genius at it to be a good coach. As long as he is able to identify what a player needs to do and in some way get the player to do it, he's doing something right. Doesn't have to be technical or convoluted at all. "Put your left arm more over here".

Based on what I've read in here, in magazines and on the Internet, I have no trouble believing that many in here has a better knowledge of the technicality and fundamentals of the golf swing than high profile coaches. But that doesn't mean they suck at their job. If the player gets good results, the coach is doing something right, regardless of what he or she may or may not know.

Besides those two, I have no clue who Hank is teaching. It's like Hank fell off the map after Tiger left him. Again, make sense when you look at the tacky infomercials he is doing lately.

Fell off the map?  Haney had multiple learning centers around DFW long before he became Tiger's coach and has multiple learning centers around DFW today.  He is doing quite well.

He does not want to coach a PGA Tour player, he has been open about that.  I don't believe he enjoys the spotlight, probably less so after leaving Tiger and hearing all the vitriol directed his way.  I don't recall much in the way of negativity while Tiger was winning majors under him.  Mmm.

I believe Haney is a bit arrogant but I also think he's an honest guy who shares his opinions openly, especially when prompted.

The arguments about his knowledge of the golf swing, while weak, are far more compelling than the argument that he has disappeared and therefore he's a shitty teacher.

If you're top 10 in Golf Digest you should be teaching pros, isn't that what all those guys on the list are shooting for?  Beyond Harmon, Foley, Leadbetter, McLean and Como, how many golf coaches are "in the spotlight" today?

Everyone is free to do with their career what they like but my guess is that Hank "chose" to not teach pro's because pro's weren't ringing his phone off the hook after he wrote the book about Tiger.

Doesn't enjoy the spotlight?  Then why is he always metaphorically jumping up and down yelling, "Look at me!!"

After breaking trust with Tiger with his book I wonder if he doesn't want to coach PGA Tour players because they do not want/trust HIM.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

Right.  He never noticed that when he says stuff, no one pays any attention unless he talks about Tiger.

Obviously he "notices" but he's  just answering questions posed to him.  The media and histrionic Tiger fans take it from there.

C'mon Gunther, I listen to him on PGA Tour radio, he loves the Tiger questions and acting like he has insider information.

Hank and his producers have final say over who gets on the air and what questions they ask.  He could kill any questions related to Tiger by stating he's no longer Tigers swing coach and doesn't feel it's appropriate to comment on Tigers swing, but that would eliminate about 40% of his calls.

1.  I doubt that he "loves" the Tiger questions.  That's a pretty big assumption on your part.

2.  Perhaps he thinks it quite appropriate to comment on Tiger's swing.  Scores in the media do it without the insight Hank has gained.  I don't find it inappropriate in any way.

At this point, it's a bigger assumption on your part to assume he doesn't love them. He takes them so darn often, and talks about Tiger so darn often, that if he disliked it… he'd simply stop talking about it. Except then he'd be largely irrelevant nationally.

That is a gross exaggeration, one might even call it histrionic.  His business here keeps him very busy and as I've mentioned, based on his own words, I do not believe he has much concern with his national relevance.

I disagree.

I've also seen Hank begin talking about Tiger Woods unprompted several times within the past few years.

If he didn't love talking about Tiger Woods, he'd not keep doing so.

Once again, the evidence does not favor your position on this.

If anything, the evidence clearly shows that HH doesn't react negatively to the spotlight when it comes to Tiger.  HH frequently gives opinions about Tiger based on no more information than we have from reading this forum.  Given HH's background, anytime he comments on Tiger it gets republished, commented on, etc. and much of it is negative.

He'd have to be a major idiot to keep commenting on Tiger if he disliked the attention.
