I'm sure they're coming up with a plan right now. I'll be curious what, if any, swing changes he ends up making.

I think it's way, way too early to speculate about swing changes.  I think we are still waiting for the specific, physical breakdown of how his "Foley" swing puts a disproportionate amount of pressure on his back than all of his other swings (or more to the point, any potential swing change).

Well that sucks. Not that I expected him to contend, but Masters without Tiger is not the same.

Yes, I agree. I didn't mean to imply that I think TW's back problems are directly related to the "Foley" swing. I was just speculating that because of his back injuries they might consider making some adjustments to protect his back from future problems. It could be that his back injury is from his workouts and little to do with his swing, for all we know. But that doesn't mean they won't consider making adjustments. But as you said, it's early and we'll just have to wait and see.

With Foley expending advice such as can be seen in these handy videos it would seem impossible that Tiger could herniate a disc working with such a wise instructor as Sean Foley. Impossible!

So the question I have is, let's fast forward several months, are we still going to be looking at a swing that appears to be too fast , too violent and aimed too far left. Let alone his head almost a drops 12 inches..........all of this to generate power and at eradic results. My question is I wonder if he has ever considered an even tempo and being more fluid in his swing. - for the safety of his back, knee , knee etc.

I think so. I don't know how he's going to keep that type of swing into his 40's. We'll see.

Remember when Tiger first joined the tour, his swing was super fast, and he was out of control with his irons. So I think what, within a couple years he shortened his swing dramatically in order to be more accurate with his approach shot distances.

I think after this back issue is resolved, he slows down his swing even more. With the way modern equipment is right now, there's really no reason to swing so hard. Let the clubs/balls do the work.

Even though he's been irrelevant on the course this season, the guy still influences so many aspects of the sport. Check out these ticket price declines:

Interesting, but not surprising. That's too bad given how many great players there are right now. But, I suppose TW does bring a level of entertainment that someone like Dufner doesn't.

Expected injury.

with those swing mechanics and impact position its a train wreck to happen.

What other predictions would you care to share with us?  Given your impeccable track record on the subject of swing mechanics, I'd love for you to share more.

This is my prediction as well.  Tiger is good enough that he doesn't need to win the distance game to win tournaments.  Can he swallow his ego though and let the bombers hit it 25 yards past him all the time?

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
