  1. 1. What should I buy?!

    • New Ping TR Anser 5 putter
      5
    • Maui Jim sunglasses

In another effort to waste time here....

I want, don't need, but want both of these. I can only get one for now. I want the anser 5 TR putter or a new pair of maui jim sunnies.

Opinions are well welcomed and one may make enough sense to commit to either one. I already putt with a saber tooth putter and have some sunglasses so neither one is a requirement. I just can't pull the trigger. They are in the ball park of each other $$ wise.

Give me some reasons!! :-P

I've never understood expensive sunglasses, so I vote for the putter.  My sunglasses (that I pretty much only wear when driving or maybe to the beach) are usually Target $10 specials.

I have never owned expensive sunglasses (lose them/break them too often) and never understood why someone would spend so much on them until my uncle got a pair of Maui Jims. I must admit, they were impressive and somewhat made me change my opinion. I would still vote putter just because I don't trust myself with expensive shades, but if you have the money you can't go wrong either way.

The putter will last a LOT longer.  My Maui Jim's.....probably the 5th pair I've owned, have a scratch in the right lens that's driving me crazy.  Pair number 6, coming up.

Get the putter.....

Oh gosh let me tell you about expensive sunglasses.  I've lost more than a couple pairs.  Beach, lake, pool, etc.  One time I fell asleep in a chair at a school building in between classes clutching my backpack that held all kinds of samples and important lab paperwork, not to mention my laptop.  No one was getting that freakin backpack!  Guess what they did get when I was asleep?  Someone walked by and plucked the $180 Costas from the top of my head.  So I am now a proponent of a) not falling asleep in public and b) rocking the $30 polarized body glove sunglasses from Academy.  And they rock.

So get the putter AND the ($30) glasses!

Lifetime warranty. For 60 clams they will replace the lenses.

I rarely lose things fyi. I still have had a pair of Revos that were left in my office in 2003. I have cheapo sunglasses sunglasses that are 3 years old. So the possibility of losing them doesn't bother me.

I think the putter will help lower your score, though depending on the lenses color, it may help you read the green better. It just depends on what you want more, haha. If anything, sacrifice both and get The Putting Prescription.

That book is amazing.

I wish I had that ability.  If there is one thing I can lose, it's a pair of sunglasses.  I envy you sir.

I probably could use the book but it won't cost me a putter or sunglasses to get it.

2 year warranty.  Doesn't cover scratches.

Lens replacement, plus shipping, plus $10 processing fee = $100ish.

Some of their glasses aren't terribly robust in construction.  They will scratch, they break more than I'd like to admit, and even if you don't "lose" them, I've had them "walk away" from a restaurant, bar, or other gathering spot.

I'm not trying to dissuade you, because they're great glasses and I like mine, but the putter will last longer and won't break if you sit on it accidentally.  BTW, it's amazing how hard it is to break or lose cheap items, or those that you didn't actually pay for, and how easy it is to do the same to expensive ones. ;-)

If it's not an issue of $'s, buy both!

Stealing sunglasses off a sleeping man’s head. That’s just wrong.
The recommendation on the Body Glove polarized looks like a good call. Appears to be a good pair of sunglasses for the price.

I have loved MJs (especially the rose tint) and still have a pair, but they are heavy (being glass). Two or three years ago I picked up some Suncloud (acrylic) glasses at REI for less than 40 or 50. So light, and I believe the new (decent quality) acrylics don't scratch nearly as easily as the old days. Mine don't have a scratch on them yet. Save some dough, skip the MJs and play with your putter.

The rose colored MJs are pretty light weight now. Idk if there was a change since you bought them or if it is a different style.

    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
    • I agree with @klineka, you're clearly doing something right.  Its always going to be a bit of a guessing game if you don't have any scoring history.  On the other hand, understanding that it takes only 54 holes to establish an actual handicap, and they have about 6 weeks in which to play and post enough scores, I don't think its at all unreasonable to require them to have an official handicap before they become eligible for prizes.  I don't know how you structure the fees for the series of competitions, but if its possible they'll play with the group without being eligible for prizes, you could consider a way to let them do that without contributing to the prize pool.
    • I run tournaments and want to put in a local rule that allows relief from tree roots and rocks that are not loose impediments. We have some really terrible lies in some of our courses in my area and nobody is getting paid enough to break clubs. Let me know if you think the verbage for this rule makes sense. Local Rule Roots and Rocks You may move your ball from a tree root or buried rock one club length for free relief no closer to the hole. However you may not use this rule to get relief from a tree, bush, boulder, or other foliage hindering your swing. Your only option here is to play it as it lies or take an unplayable for a one stroke penalty.
    • Makes sense.  Like I said, I wouldn't have been upset at their original offer either, and based on the fine print it seems like they've held up their end of the deal.
