What bounce in Vokey wedges for Colorado Golf?

I've done a ton of research on bounce as I want to upgrade my wedges.

I'm looking at 54* and 58* as my new iron set has a 50* gap wedge.

I'm in CO and I just don't know what bounces to get for these wedges.   I plan on getting the SM4 Vokeys as they are now being discounted to make room for the SM5.

Looking at 54-11 and 58-12....

Is that too much bounce?  Do you recommend something different?  I'm playing a 56-12 hippo wedge right now and I like that club.  Also playing a 60-10 hippo wedge.

If you've done a ton of research, then you'll know the Vokey bounce selection guide is well documented. If after reading this guide you are still no further close to deciding your options, then I doubt anyone else who has no idea of your swing or the ground conditions you play in will have any clue either.

It is really starting to sink in now that I am getting to use mine more now just how good these wedges are. I am so glad I did my fitting. I think doing the putter first is good, but saving the coin for these is a close second.

Yes I've seen the vokey site.  They consider 10 degrees "mid bounce" and 11 degrees "high bounce" hence my confusion.

Not sure if I should get a 54-11 or a 54-08?  Does it even matter?

Well that depends on the grind and how the club plays. A 10 degree of bounce might play 10 degrees. Take an 11 degrees of bounce with the right grind and it plays more. Look at some irons now of days, they have near 8-10 degrees of bounce.

The grinds confuse me even further.  That's why I'm going with SM4 as all the grind options on the SM5 confuse the hell out of me.

Need to take into account how you swing the club also. Plus the condition of the courses you play.

Bounce is beneficial on all types of shots. That generalization isn't correct. Actually bounce will help you even more on tight lies, because even if you glide through the ball, it wont cause you to dig into the ground.

Here is Erik hitting from, I would call it similar to astro-turf. I think the lowest bounce on his wedges is near 17 degrees. Which is higher than any major companies wedges put out in your typical golf store.

Bounce is your friend, but too much bounce is just as bad as too little bounce. Instead of chunking it when you hit behind the ball, the club will bounce up and cause you to skull it. It might just be psychological, but I prefer chipping with low bounce wedges. Hit whichever wedge you're most comfortable hitting. Confidence is probably one of the most important components of chipping.

@saevel25 FWIW, there are some out there that say bounce will get in the way of hitting the spinner shots. That being said, yeah for most of us and the shots we play it helps on all the shots. Many of the Edel wedges have a lot of bounce, mine included(I think 20ish on my 57). It is worth noting that the bounce is rather short though and so it makes the club very versatile being able to hit soft shots on tight lies as well. I have held mine next to some wedges in the 10-12 degree bounce range and the leading edge actually is lower to the ground on mine. So @tmac20 more than just the degree of the bounce, the way it is used and the grind makes a huge difference. I would look at how high the leading edge sits in various positions on different grinds when picking a wedge off the rack. That is more important to me than the number in the bottom. Hitting the ball thin with high bounce wedges is usually either a result of bad technique or it is in your head, unless you have a very long bounce, no grind and are trying to open the face.

Yeah I wouldn't go with any less bounce than that , enjoy the new wedges!

FWIW, the grinds are more for shots other than square face at impact.  What they do per Vokey is keep the bounce consistent as the face is opened.  For my 50, 54, 58 set up that I used to use, I had a 54-14 with full sole and 58-12 with the m-grind.  The M grind allows you to open up the face and keep the bounce relatively the same for flop shots.  Now I use a 52-12 with full grind to replace the 50-54.
