I seem to be in a minority with respect to The Donald, though I can never figure out why.

The article says he's going to leave the course alone and is going to make improvements to the hotel.  He has the money and passion to do it right.

Trump, from the article:

"Some of the greatest championships in the history of golf have taken place at Turnberry. And the golf course itself is considered one of the greatest in the world. Some rate it as the best in the world. I'm not going to touch a thing unless the Royal and Ancient ask for it or approve it. I have the greatest respect for the R&A; and for (R&A; chief executive) Peter Dawson. I won't do anything to the golf course at all without their full stamp of approval."

What's not to like?

You're not alone @David in FL . I'm not a "fan" of Donald Trump, but I like him more than I dislike him (when it comes to golf - I really have no other experience except his show, which I watched for awhile before it became all about quasi-celebrities).

I agree @David in FL Trump has become a bit of a caricature of himself due to his public persona (The Apprentice, political commentary) but I like him and think he is a smart business person.  From a golf perspective, he's very outspoken about his passion for golf and he's investing a ton of money into the sport.

Not a fan at all of Donald Trump. Don't have a ton of knowledge about how he runs his courses, but I live <5 minutes from one of his courses, and I can't say it looks very good from the street. I wouldn't pay $50 to play there (not that I could). Hopefully he doesn't screw Turnberry up.

I'm genuinely curious. Why, if you don't know much about him, or "how he runs his courses", do you dislike him? Surely not because you don't care for how one of his courses "looks from the street".....

Mostly because he's a babbling buffoon. Who, by the way, was given the business. Hardly the self-made billionaire people like to make him out to be.

But hey, that's just my opinion.

You must be reading a different newspaper here are Trump's quotes on Sterling and the situation;

Donald Trump echoed the sentiments of outrage expressed by many in response to racist remarks allegedly made by Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, but adding that the woman who recorded the conversation is “the girlfriend from hell.”

Speaking with Fox News on Monday, Trump called Sterling's comments “despicable,” referencing the 15-minute conversation with then-girlfriend V. Stiviano in which the Clippers owner made several disparaging comments toward African-Americans. However, Trump added that while Sterling's comments deserved punishment, he said the Clippers owner was set-up by his “very bad girlfriend.” “He got set up by a very, very bad girlfriend, let's face it,” Trump told “Fox & Friends” of Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

“She's called the girlfriend from hell, but what he said was terrible and despicable and very strong action is going to be taken. There's no question about it,” Trump said of Sterling's girlfriend. “She's a terrible human being and he gave horrible answers and disgusting answers.” Trump also called into question the mental state of Sterling, saying that he “seems close to incompetent.” “I think he could be out of it, frankly, based on his actions,” Trump said. “He could be pretty much out of it in terms of his whole mentality.”

The fact that he came out and said Sterling was "set up" speaks volumes.

Oh brother. Bullshit. He was set up. His girlfriend recorded what he thought was a private conversation. That's a statement of fact, is it not?

You were wrong with what you said above. You called him a Sterling apologist.

Actually, you are incorrect. Sterling knew he was being recorded.

I still contend that he is a Sterling apologist.

First, I didn't say he didn't know. I said it was a private conversation. Second, you've yet to share any evidence that makes such a contention valid. Third, we have a Sterling thread. This isn't it. You can dislike Donald Trump all you want, but we are just as free to realize that your reasons for disliking him are… without foundation.

Hey, I stated my opinion on Trump was just that, an opinion. You made this thread about my opinion, not me. But, since we're on the topic of what Sterling did and didn't know.....

I said I didn't know much about how he runs his courses. My income doesn't afford me the privileged of playing his courses. However, as I said, the course near me is not a nice looking course. You can see enough of it to know it's not well maintained. I do have a buddy who's played it a bunch of times (and even run into Trump there, who apparently was kind of an ass), so I'll check in with him to see if that holds true for the rest of the course as well.

EDIT: Let me add that I don't mean it's in bad shape, just not what I would expect from a Trump course. It looks like a nicely maintained muni course. It should certainly be much nicer than that. My prior descriptions may have come across as too harsh when describing it. That doesn't at all change my opinion of the owner, though.

Well, this thread went sideways pretty fast (you'd think we were discussing who is better Jack or Tiger).

Anyway, my concern about Trump is that he likes high profile deals and they seem to be more about him and his getting publicity; and how he owns one of the jewels of the golfing world.

Players play, tough players win!

    • Day 126 (18 Apr 24) - Trail arm only drill with the LW…focused on letting the club drop, engaging the bounce and letting the club pop the ball up….wrapped up by repeating drill with both hands on the club…
    • OPPs, I guess I have been doing the drill incorrectly, just ignore this.  But as they say, mistakes are learning opportunities. Let’s hope I can learn from mine.
    • Some thoughts after the 1st 9 holes of the year. The driver was pretty good, nothing crazy. My miss seems to be just a push. The start line is a bit too far right for my taste, but they are drawing back at least. Hitting middle-ish of the face to slightly toe. Part of the right miss is a bit of open face and off the toe slightly.  Irons, some really good strikes, others were not so good. I am feeling a few things, when I am being mindful of the swing I made.  1) Got to get the pause down again, and keep things shorter (as usual). One of the best iron shots was when I tried to mimic Rahm's swing length, lol. I caught a flier and hit an 8-iron like 190 yards into an area of no return for that golf ball. The swing felt great 😉  2) I got to stay taller in transition, feel like I gain tons of space between my hands and my chest. The bad swing is the old swing, bad right elbow, tilt to lower the club. This was too much shallowing, and hitting the ball fat. I just think of it this way, you are bent over, and you can reach the ball at address. So, you can reach the ball at impact by getting your hands down.  3) The final thing is the timing. It might take some time to get some flow into the swing. Timing up hands down and the turn is a bit off. Focusing on the hands down kind of stalls everything for me, at least it feels like my hips do not turn. I end up hitting a decent strike, just feels meh athletically, lol.  Short game was Ok, which means pretty good for not practicing it. Not short, but not round destroying.  Putting, doing much better now that I quickened up my routine. Line up, looking at my target. Glance down at the ball to get into my stance. Glance up at my target spot again, then hit the ball with in like 1-2 seconds after looking back down at the ball. Trying not to get to static over the ball while putting.
    • Oh I'm dumb, I just noticed I did the MyStrategy from the wrong tee box. I don't think it changes anything, though. I'll play it as a three shot hole and I still don't really want to miss right (guy I played with on Sunday never found his ball he hit just over the trees right). I think the trees left are considered part of the environmentally sensitive area because it's part of the drainage area for the course. I actually like this hole a lot. I'll try to remember to take a picture next time. I probably overestimated the wind speed. We had sustained winds of like 12-15mph with gusts up to 25mph. The wind is actually forecast to be WNW on Saturday instead of WSW like was when I played on Sunday so if I play this hole again the wind will be pushing towards that bunker. Similar speeds, though. Wind is always a factor at this course because there's really nothing blocking it. I'm definitely going to have to pay attention to it, especially with the wind. I hit a handful of short iron approaches a lot farther than I thought I would on Sunday. As of right now the only thing I know for sure is I'm starting on Ridge. I don't know if the back 9 will be played on Meadow or Lake.
    • Day 113: 4/18/24 Stack training progress check after finishing my 6th program, and 4th Full Speed Spectrum Training session, which is recommended for my next program.     Gained 1 mph with driver, 195 g, 95g. Maintained with 280 g , and gained 2 with 145 g. Lost 1 mph on both lead and trail arm. Felt like I lost distance in my last round…
