I don't believe he is. At the U.S. Open a few years ago, I was asking golfers to autograph pencil drawings that I had sketched. Most everyone would grab the drawing and sign, then hand it to a marshall or sometimes me. Phil was only 1 of 3 golfers who actually noticed that I had sketched the picture of him. He complimented me and talked with me for a few minutes. So I don't think he's fake.

By the way, the drawings I did are for my kids someday when I'm gone.

Not a fake golfer, but that sure was a fake wrist injury. Brilliant move really. Moved all the focus at Oakmont from the big choke at Wing Foot to poor Phil's wrist. Wie's got to be going nuts. Nobody believed her injury for a second, yet nobody, I mean nobody, questioned Phil's and he had much more motivation to lie.

Yes my father did play with me he just didnt wait until 40 camaras were pointed at us to do it....Phils got you fooled too huh...Awww shucks that Phil is a great ol dad aint he...YUCK!...Tiger would never do something as lame as that..What next? He brings kites to the golf course and cast off at the 18th with little curly lockes?

Ive always thought it was lame for sports stars to parade their kids out in front of world...Whether it be Phil Mickelson or Allan Iverson..Its just kinda lame.

I caught a bit of a news report on the Stern Show today on Sirius - I only caught the back end of it twice, but they were mentioning a possible Sports Illustrated story about Mickelson having a kid with an Atlanta-area stripper - I only caught the tail end (no pun intended) of the story - anyone have any idea?

i heard the same story from robins news. i was wondering the same thing. i searched a little bit and it seemed like this was leaked back in 04 or 05, its just that his agent or some sponsor shut the other party up. this could be interesting.

Thanks, Lemay. Glad I wasn't hearing things.

I think it would be hysterical if there was some 6 year-old half-Mickelson/half-Puerto Rican stripper running around in Atlanta. Maybe she can run out on the green the next time he wins in Hartford with all of his Cleaver-esque daughters.

Phil comes off as a douche a couple of times each year - so if he has some illegitimate kid with some southern, minority stripper - I would love to see how that plays out.

Absolutely NOT. Phil is the victim of the group "go along to get along" mentality that pervades the PGA, similar to what one may see in forums such as this. Because Phil behaves differently than many of Tim Finchem's minions on the PGA, he is unfairly labeled. These Group4Lifers will think nothing of tarnishing Phils REPutation because it gives them a feeling of POWER.

Supposedly he has a real big gambling problem that the TOUR is always trying to keep quiet and under wraps, and a bit of a drinking problem.

I still like the guy though... he has personality and realizes that he is there to provide entertainment to people (leading him to actually acknowledge fans and appreciate them, something the world's current no. 1 doesn't realize or do). I also love the fact that he always allows his wife and children to meet him on the 18th green and gives them all hugs and kisses when he finishes. (Again, Tiger rarely acknowledges that Elin even exists until after he signs his scorecard and even sometimes ignores her until after he hoists the trophy and gives his photo ops.)

Anyway, I guess every good person is going to have faults, and everyone is going to try and minimize those faults (why would they publicize them?)... we are all human after all...

I've never heard about this.....do you have sources on this?

If you do a little digging you'll see it's been discussed by a lot of people. I won't name my sources because I don't want to blow their cover, but I will say this: I deeply trust my sources and THEY have talked about Phil's gambling issues. It's also well known that Phil is a sports nut and generally knows the line on any major game, all the NFL teams, etc... and likes to bet on them.

I haven't heard much lately, so he may be "better" now. But the general understanding is that the Callaway contract helped to pay off some gambling debts he'd accrued. I've also heard about Phil's (and Amy's) somewhat wild "swinger" lifestyle, but not from the same people as I trust about the gambling. So I don't put much stock in those comments. But the gambling? As far as I'm concerned there's a lot of truth there.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I would also like to keep my source quiet so as not to put in jeopardy his top-level position at one of the sponsor corporations for a couple of TOUR stops. This person does not work directly with the TOUR, but does work directly with those that do. He is a source in whom I have a high level of confidence and whom I have known practically my whole life.

As far as the swinging goes I haven't heard anything of that from this source, but I will be sure to inquire the next time our families get together.

Wow, sounds like Callaway needs to open a "Life Counselling" division. JD now Phil!

BTW, my wife heard Phil's interview after the President's cup and just looked at me and said "He just said the same thing 4 times in a row" She definitely would vote him as being fake.

People were talking in this thread about how he's done nice things and I don't disagree with that view, but the question is "Is Phil fake?" I would say undoubtedly Phil is fake. His niceness is part of his fakeness. and if Kanye was finishing that line he might add "We should be honored by his fakeness"

    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
