Adam Scott enters the week at #1 in the world

http://www.pgatour.com/tour-insider/2014/05/21/adam-scott-world-no-1-crowne-plaza.html

Quote:

Is Adam Scott the best player in the world?

A better way to put it is to ask who has been better during the last two years? Besides, someone has to be No. 1.

Sure, Tiger Woods had more wins last year with five (albeit none in a major). Jimmy Walker leads the FedExCup standings with three wins since October (again, none in a major). But when it comes to getting to No. 1, playing big in big tournaments is what gets rewarded.

Scott certainly did that on his way to replacing Tiger Woods atop the Official World Golf Rankings earlier this week -- even if he did it while sitting on the couch.

The Aussie won last year’s Masters, was third at The Open Championship and fifth at the PGA Championship. He also closed out 2013 with a pair of wins Down Under -- weaker fields, but with the added pressure of wanting to play well in a rare appearance in his home country.

Yes, Scott is 0-for-2014 in the wins department but hasn’t been without opportunity, most notably at Bay Hill and Augusta National, where opportunities slipped away on the weekend.

In seven starts on the PGA TOUR this year, Scott has three top 10s. His worst finish was a tie for 38th at THE PLAYERS Championship. Outside of that, he has just one finish outside the top 15.

The guy he replaced also hasn’t played a tournament in more than two months, and even before being sidelined by back surgery was off to the worst start of any season of his career.

"You want to do it playing well and getting good results,” Scott said recently of getting to No. 1. “But it's just the way our system is.”

I hope so, been waiting patiently for him to break through. He's currently on my fantasy team bench for this week.

I really don't understand the world rankings and disregard them for the most part.

Man, Dufner certainly has been showing a bad temper lately. The term "Dufnering" is soon going to be synonymous with throwing your club at your bag.

What happened to Rickie??

He sure needs gods help on that round. He had two triple bogey's. OUCH!!

Maybe he got a pinched nerve in his back when he and Bubba were flipping from their hotel rooms into the pool.

Adam (tied for 77).... - you need to pick up the pace here - you know, start your signature "last couple of rounds are great" thing sooner.  ( It's still early, but Henrik is doing what he needs to do so far)

So Stenson (tied for 4th) will pass Scott and become No. 1 in the world if he wins and the Aussie doesn't.

-- Stenson finishes fourth and Scott is fifth or worse

-- Stenson finishes sixth and Scott is 10th or worse

-- Stenson finishes 12th and Scott is 20th or worse

-- Stenson finishes 15th and Scott is 30th or worse

-- Stenson finishes 17th and Scott is 40th or worse

-- Stenson finishes 19th and Scott is 50th or worse

-- Stenson finishes 29th and Scott is 53rd or worse (winning zero points)

I'm not sure where the same breakdown lies for Kuch (tied for 83), but it's likely similar?

I've never heard of this Brice Garnett guy; he doesn't even have a Wikipedia page. Knowing how this season has gone, my guess is he'll win by six strokes.

Yeah and Stenson's T3 right now at Wentworth, so i'd be surprised if he's not number one come monday [quote name="Chilli Dipper" url="/t/74728/2014-crowne-plaza-invitational-at-colonial-discussion-thread#post_993623"]I've never heard of this Brice Garnett guy; he doesn't even have a Wikipedia page. it's early yet

I like both these players (as well as) so there's no outcome here for #1 that I wouldn't cheer on

Did not Scott recently marry a woman?  His poor play may be some kind of response to the rigors of the honeymoon life. Ya know what i mean?

Mother of God. Another week with no namers in the lead. Brice Garnett, Chris Stroud, and Robert Streb 1-2-3. Wtf? You know its bad when Chris Stroud is the "big" name in that top 3. Here's hoping DJ somehow wins this so golf doesnt projectile vomit any longer.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
    • I had an article on Cam Smith pop up along with this..... Current major eligibility list for all LIV Golf players Here's a look at which majors, if any, all LIV Golf players are eligible.
