Southern rock to me is something like lynard skynard and I don't know anyone on the planet who would mistake skynard for a country western band.  But I get the point, I hear a lot of country fans say they hate "new country" and how it sounds pop-ish or whatever.  Old - new it all sounds terrible to me so I don't listen to any of it.

What sort of music would you reasonably tolerate on a golf course?

I think the only thing that would annoy me is the volume of the music. If it were loud enough to move the ball around, that would be annoying.

Loud shouting between two people wanting to kill each other, that's kind of annoying.

People talking on the tee box, or normal things don't really annoy me anymore because as I am getting ready to take a shot I am more focused on actively relaxing my muscles. I interfere with myself more than outside effects.

I've never told anyone to shut off their music, I'd just prefer it if it was not played even if it was music I liked.

Actually, the thought never crossed my mind to turn on music on the golf course.

I've had it happen twice, both times it was the other cart in the group that was playing it.  It was mostly only annoying when teeing off since the cart is sitting right there.

This^^.  Not sure why it has suddenly become an issue - 10 years ago I'd never even seen anyone plugged in on the course, much less with speakers.  I think that too many people are addicted to their iPods, etc.  That was fine until they had to go from headphones and earbuds to speakers.  With headphones, they were were only rudely ignoring the people they were playing with, but speakers extends the rudeness to anyone within earshot.   For me, one reason for getting out on the course is to get away from that.  It's why I don't use or even turn on my cell phone on the course.

There are places where such things are appropriate - my friends have them for our group beach or boat outings.  For picnics and family gatherings away from the house, no problem, again as long as you don't impose your music on others.

When I'm on the golf course, I'd rather listen to the birds and the breeze, and to the natural sounds of golf balls ricocheting off trees and cart paths .
