@cipher started with the one I'll post below, but I think we should all look to post video logs of us playing golf. They're fun, relatively quick and easy, and show off the courses we play. With cheap mounts you can stick a tripod on your cart and film everything, easily, with a cell phone or dedicated little camera.

Limited discussion will be allowed in these threads, and VLogs should also be posted to your "My Swing" threads, but this will be a great way to collect them all and encourage more people to create them.

Here is the flexible tripod mount attached to the handle of my push cart that was used to do this.

About how much would a camera that produces a decent quality cost? My phone wouldn't last battery wise with using it for gps and recording.

That's awesome! I had this exact idea recently! I was gonna get one of those flexible tripods and mount my handicam to my bag while I played. I'm totally gonna have to do it, now!

I got the Canon Powershot ELPH 300HS camera on ebay for around $100. It is the same one @Ernest Jones uses.  He reccommended it to me.  The tripod was about $10 on ebay as well.  The camera is nice, you can also record 120fps and 240fps video with it.

Great idea @iacas and thanks for getting this started @cipher . I should be able to get out and film some holes on Sunday afternoon.

Great. Soon VLogs are going to start having some words from a certain book in them… ;)

That is going to be cool. I found a way to eliminate the equipment failure if your push cart has an umbrella holder the flexible tripod should fit pretty snug in it. #nerdout

Hmmm ... I'm googling this camera and the only reviews I find say things like this:

The Canon PowerShot 300 HS lacks any form of optical or electronic viewfinder, with all interaction taking place through its rear-panel PureColor II G LCD display. The PowerShot ELPH 300 HS's display measures 2.7 inches diagonally, and offers 230,000 dot resolution, which equates to roughly a 320 x 240 pixel array with three dots per color. LCD coverage is said to be approximately 100%. As well as still images at resolutions up to 4,000 x 3,000 pixels, the Canon ELPH 300 HS can record high definition movie clips at up to Full HD (aka 1080p, or 1,920 x 1,080 pixels) resolution, with a rate of 24 frames per second at the highest resolution, and 30 frames per second at 720p (1,280 x 720 pixels) or below . Movies are stored with H.264 compression in a .MOV container, and include stereo Linear PCM audio.

And the main reason I'm asking is because I realize that my wife's old camera (Powershot s95) says the same thing on its reviews ...  30fps and 24 fps.  I'm hoping that whatever it is that makes the 300hs capable of shooting at high speeds is also in the s95??

Y'know, I'm almost positive @Zeph did this once a few years ago. Next time I play 9, I'll set up my Casio on a tripod. As long as I turn it off between shots, I should have enough battery to last me, and everything's small enough that weight shouldn't be an issue.

Darn, I was hoping it was 240fps for $100.

Looks like the GoPro is back as a possibility. Currently, I lug around a Nikon 5100 SLR.

The Casio everyone uses also looks interesting, but is a little heavy for those flexible tripods. 240fps on the GoPro should be okay, I think?

This is a great idea.  Cool video @cipher .  Wondering if I could get past the mockery from my buddies.  I'd be worried about pace of play concerns, but maybe this would actually make me play faster.  Would want to cut down my pre-shot routine to almost nothing so I don't have to change memory cards ever two holes!

No, I'm sure @cipher is right, I just want to know how to do it, so I can see if the s95 does it also.  Something to do with going even lower on the image size, I presume.  It's just weird it's not mentioned anywhere in reviews.

I've had this s95 sitting around the house for a long time.  We have two dSLR's that we use, and for quick snapshots we use our iPhones, so the s95 is barely one step above being a kids toy (just like my iphone 3 and Sheri's old Blackberry)

The Canon @Ernest Jones and I have does both 120fps and 240fps for a cheap price. It of course is not one of the HD settings. It is a special setting. Very basic though. I am not sure about the camera you listed @Golfingdad .

Haha, thanks!  I was just going to ask how to check to see if mine does this.  Stay tuned ... until later when I'm home and can check it out.

Unrelated:  I have to be home by 6pm to meet the guy giving me the quote for a synthetic putting green in our backyard.

You and EJ are the greatest. I was going to waste $400 just to do this one function.
I'm going to ebay or Best Buy to get one of these cameras!

    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.
