I went to Whispering Woods Golf Club yesterday, 11/4/17, with one of my golf friends, Max. The weather was weirdly nice for a November in Erie. I bogeyed the first hole (I usually do) and as we were d

I played in my first high school match today as the #2 golfer. The #1 golfer is a four-year player, a senior, who I tied during the tryouts. Our team won first in a nine-team field at the Penn St

Hardly looks like the same young lady that is ruling the links.    I just want to know if you taught her the missed putt attitude?

She had to have learned it elsewhere.

I don't miss putts.

Well, I got fitted for a nearly full set of PXG clubs today.

Ended up going with:

Driver - https://www.pxg.com/en-us/clubs/drivers/0811xf

  • 0811XF Gen2, 10.5°
  • Aldila NVS Orange NX 55A
  • Flat - Setting (2.5° Flat, 9.75° loft)
  • 44”, Swing Weight C8

5 Wood - https://www.pxg.com/en-us/clubs/fairway-woods/0341x

  • 0341X Gen2, 5W (18°)
  • Neutral weighting
  • Aldila NVS Orange NX 55A
  • PXG (3° flat)
  • 41.75", Swing Weight C8

Hybrids - https://www.pxg.com/en-us/clubs/hybrids/0317x

  • 0317X Gen2, 22° and 25°
  • Neutral weighting
  • Accra Tour 50i/L
  • Hosel Setting PXG (3° flat)
  • -1/2", Swing Weight C8

Irons - https://www.pxg.com/en-us/clubs/irons/gen3/configure/0311-p

  • Gen3 0311P
  • 6, 7, 8, 9, PW, GW
  • Tipped 1/2"
  • Standard Loft
  • 2° Flat
  • -1/2", Swing Weight C5
  • Accra Tour 50i/L

Grips

  • PURE Undersize
  • Logo down

My regular driver was much heavier, my 5W, my hybrids all heavier than they should have been. They were also a lot more upright than they should have been. I am actually kind of annoyed at that as PING should have done better or communicated that they couldn't do "C8" with a driver or something like that.

I am going to keep my Glide 2.0 54° and 58° wedges, my muscle back Hale Irwin 4I that's about 30" long for punching out, and my Edel putter (but I have a variable weight one of those on order).

It's cool seeing your journey.  I've got four little ones (two girls and two boys) that I am trying to get interested in golf.  The youngest boy is a natural, and the youngest girl is fearless swinging the club, but I'm struggling to keep her from standing up in her backswing.  I may start some swing threads for them.

    • Saratoga National is a very nice course, it's a bit rich for me but I'm sure you'll enjoy it. The Saratoga Spa State Park course is one of my favorites in the entire area. You won't get the resident rate but it's still a good deal. Saratoga Lake Golf Club is ok, some great holes and some boring holes, a bit scruffy in places.
    • The guys at my range must wonder where the green or blue marks come from on the balls!  Royal fetish. I think sharpies or dry erase work well on irons, but I have trouble doing these tests on grass with short irons. The grass seems to wipe the mark off. Woods no problem except the faces of my woods and hybrids are black. You have to check very closely.  I would suggest doing the testing off mats.

    • Day 70, August 3, 2021: Grip work, I mean my grip sucks. So I worked on it for ten minutes then hit some chips.
    • Depends on where they’re playing. Most courses around me are fairly wide open. I’ll take Hillandale as an example. Not long at all for the pros, just over 6400 as a par 71.  The four par 3s are mid length holes (one about 165, one about 180 and two that are 190). One of them has an all carry approach and one has a tough green. The longest par 4 out there is only about 430 from the blues, which is driver-wedge for most pros, and a lot of them are fairly straightaway. Most are in the range of 370-400 from the blues. All three par 5s are reachable in two, the longest clocking in at 510 and the shortest a mere 440.  I know this is just one course, but I’ll say a pro can shoot mid 60s pretty easily.
