Forgot to say, I'm getting the new Srixon Z-Forged irons!

ZForged.jpg

The Srixon Z-FORGED Irons provide a muscle back blade offering with a knife-like address profile for maximum workability. Srixon

They look sweeeeet!! I'm doing the split set again, though.  So I'll have these in 7-pw, then 3-6iron of the 785s.

Pretty clubs. Hit a demo 6 iron at GG last week was impressed. The new Mizunos were great as well. Enjoy.

I think I found a feel to get my hips and shoulders to continue rotating through impact. Most people talk to me about hip turning, but what I tried instead was chest turning or right shoulder dropping and left shoulder going up.  It's still super early, but I like the feeling so far.

This is from the other day.

Only did a few swings with this feeling so far. What I see in the 2nd photo is hips slightly more rotated, chest slightly more open, head looks less cramped, and butt is sitting back a bit more. I'll keep at it.  Funny, I feel like my drill with the feel is similar to J. Rose when he does his routine on the tee.

Question for you @phillyk, are you worried about your right knee kicking in too much at A7? I feel that when my right knee kicks in I am sort of "faking" rotation.

Please don't take this as a criticism, as you hit the ball much harder than me, but just wondering your thoughts.

I want my right knee to kick towards my left and not towards the ball. So, I will look into it next time I work on it. I had one other video I took from face on that didn’t show that bend and I still got my weight onto my left. Best answer is I will keep eye on it. I think it might just be a passing thing as I try to get this feel down.

I appreciate thoughts or criticism. I’ve had/still have an odd looking swing, no doubt. But I’m working on it. I’ve had some incredible rounds and I want them to be more consistent, so moving towards a more sound swing will hopefully help that.

Another thing I noticed in the new video i took is that my hands from A4 to A5 don’t drop straight down as much as they did before. They started moving towards ball on plane. I will work on drill a bit over the next day and post a video of my drill and swing.

As a + handicap player do you find tweaking your swing much easier? I would think you know what works and can get back to that quickly.

I talked with my friend (another scratch golfer) about this. Don’t remember if I posted it here somewhere or not but any tweaks that we do, feel like big changes but look small to everyone else. I’ve always had one feel that I could go back to if I find my swing going haywire in the middle of a round, which is watching the clubhead’s blurr go straight through the ball. The swings are not as powerful but they go straight enough.

Tweaking to change ball flights is pretty easy if thats what you mean, though.

I think your first paragraph answered my question thank you. When you are a terrible golfer like myself trying to self coach on changes if feels impossible. I find it interesting that an accomplished player feels even small changes are huge to them.

Definitely turning a bit more. Hands aren’t getting into plane like I originally thought. I know the face on view doesn’t have a ball but I didn’t have my foam ball this time. Got some work to do, but I think this is a good direction.

Ok one min. My videos did not upload correctly.

Need to jot down notes from today's practice.  There's been snow on the ground for the last 3 weeks.  So, besides the few balls I hit in the sim, I really haven't played or practiced up til today.

Started off a bit rusty as I expected, but I finally got into a groove towards the end.  I somehow seem to say this a lot, but my short game had been a nightmare recently.  I think I know why, but regardless, I think I got it down.  At least it felt really good today and I was in much better control of the ball.

Long Game: I need to remember to feel my right shoulder driving down and through the ball to continue rotation.  When I get that right, it feels awesome. I also need to watch my chest aim point at set up.  It was pointing a bit left, so I had a tendency to over-draw the ball.  Ball position needs to be a little further back in my stance too.  Head needs to stay a bit higher at address too.  With driver, I have to remember to feel like I'm overly swinging up on the ball. Short game: Go to the old style, ball off right foot, skinny open stance.  Putting: Be aggressive! Stop trying to lay up.

Got the new Z forged and z785 irons today to complete my set of 2019 equipment from Srixon/Cleveland.  Finally got to play today too! All the snow is melted off. Hit the ball surprising well. I was a little hesitant with the swing early on, but no huge mistakes today.

Got in my first round for the posting season. (-1) 71 with 3 birdies, an eagle, 2 bogies and a double. So kind of an up and down round, but happy with it and how my swing is doing. Just trying to feel my right shoulder drive through the ball and it gets my rotation going.

I just chatted with the other Phil yesterday. Phil G., formerly of Shuksan Golf Course, now at Lake Padden Golf Course.  He says you are very long off the tee.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
